NOAA Ship Rainier has had a productive offseason while undergoing repairs at Marine Operations Center- Pacific Islands in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii! While moored in Pearl Harbor the ship has had the privilege to host numerous visitors including U.S. Congressional Representative from Hawaii’s first district, Ed Case, the Assistant Administrator for the NOAA Fisheries, Janet Coit, and the Deputy Assistant Administrator for Navigation, Observations and Positioning, of NOAA's National Ocean Services (NOS) Ms. Rachel Dempsey! Congressmen Case and Deputy Assistant Administrator Dempsey met with Rainier's command and crew and were given a tour of the ship and shown the variety of missions Rainier accomplished during the 2023 RICHARD field season! These included our survey missions in the American Samoan islands, the Republic of Kiribati and the remote islands of Howland, Baker and the Rose Atoll to name a few!
