We will be quite a bit cooler today with highs falling into the 80s areawide and staying there through at least mid-week. Shower and thunderstorm threat will remain today, but primarily dry conditions return through mid-week.

635 pm - We're becoming concerned about flash flooding across the western part of the county from Peletier to Cedar Point / Cape Carteret as thunderstorms with intense rainfall move back over some of the hardest hit areas from earlier.

There are 2 areas of thunderstorms we are monitoring right now. The first is in central NC. Those are moving SE towards ENC. The 2nd area is along the Crystal Coast. Those thunderstorms aren't moving as much. The environment is favorable for severe weather in both areas.

9/5/26 1:55 PM: We're already seeing quick development of thunderstorms across western and north-central NC. This will continue to expand southeastward into the afternoon and evening.

The current thinking has not changed, although probabilities of damaging winds have increased since this morning. As always, make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings.
