NOAA leadership was joined by partners last fall at the International WorkBoat Show to celebrate the keel-laying for Navigator, a new charting and mapping vessel being constructed for NOAA. The vessel's name highlights one of NOAA's central missions, facilitating the safe navigation of mariners throughout U.S. waters. The Navigator will be homeported in Newport, Oregon.

On a recent Friday afternoon in Yaquina Bay, Oregon, a loud boom drew the attention of NOAA personnel at the Marine Operations Center-Pacific pier. Thick smoke was spotted billowing from a nearby recreational vessel, the result of a fire on board. It was at this moment that the training of NOAA personnel proved to be invaluable.
