Did you know the SYCAMORE, a 225’ Juniper class buoy tender, has a continuous ice breaking capability of 2 feet of ice thickness. This has been helpful this year on the Hudson cutting paths for mariners on the Hudson to hove too over night and get some much needed rest. This allows them to be sharp and bright for their voyage the next day in these challenging conditions .

After the sub zero temperatures through the weekend, much of the Hudson River freezes up and requires SYCAMORE to reestablish the track from the previous day. As well many of the vessels that hove too in the ice for the night need assistance to continue their journey and provide crucial supplies to communities up and down the river.

Earlier today, SYCAMORE assisted tug and barge Sapphire Coast near West Point, NY. Maneuvering around the vessel to break up the ice and clear a path to keep the Marine Transportation System on the Hudson operational.

Members of the SYCAMORE participated in a 5k this morning in remembrance of our heroes’ sacrifices on 9/11.
We invite you to learn more about the inspiring rescue efforts of mariners in the aftermath, transporting 500,000 civilizations off of Manhattan. https://youtu.be/MDOrzF7B2Kg si=ZneD9l68etxq7GZP
We also thank the crew of the JUNIPER in 2001 for their role as port security after 9/11. We will never forget the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice on that day.

SYCAMORE has returned from a month patrol in Florida. Along the way the crew participated in many drills and training events to include a pyro shoot, engineering casualty exercises, damage control drills, and a man overboard, even deploying the surface swimmer. BZ to the crew for a job well done and a special shout out to the engineers for their quick response and repairs to a steering casualty.
