⚓️ Kicking off a new chapter at NCS!

CAPT Tavis Long welcomed the newest Advanced Leadership Course (ALC) and Intermediate Leadership Course (ILC) students on deck this week, marking the first convenes of both courses under his leadership as Commanding Officer.

In his remarks, CAPT Long emphasized that leadership is more than a position—it is a responsibility to serve, develop others, and lead with character. He challenged students to fully engage in the learning experience and use the course as an opportunity to grow into more effective leaders for the Fleet and Force.

We wish both classes success as they begin this important leadership journey. 🇺🇸📚

⚓Why did you join the Navy?
"I joined the Navy in order to pursue a career that would allow me to travel, as well as to challenge myself while being able to provide for myself and my loved ones. Since joining, I have found myself being able to take enormous pride in my work with a strong sense of discipline."

🇺🇸 FAREWELL AND PROMOTION: NCS HONORS FIRST SERGEANT DANIEL SULLIVAN 🇺🇸

Today, the Naval Chaplaincy School bid farewell to First Sergeant Daniel Sullivan, a Marine whose leadership, discipline, and dedication have shaped the development of hundreds of Navy Chaplains over the past three years.

🏅 During a command formation, Sullivan was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in recognition of his outstanding service, promoted to First Sergeant, and presented a farewell plaque honoring the impact he and his family have made on the Naval Chaplaincy School and the Navy Chaplain Corps.

🦅🌎⚓ Serving as the Assistant Military Officer Instructor for the Basic Leadership Course, Sullivan was known affectionately as “The Gunny,” a title honoring his previous rank of Gunnery Sergeant. In that role, he brought order, discipline, physical readiness, Marine Corps familiarization, and professional excellence to generations of Chaplains preparing to serve across the sea services.

🙏 The Naval Chaplaincy School is grateful for First Sergeant Sullivan’s exceptional leadership, faithful service, and lasting contribution to the formation of future Chaplains. 🌟 We wish him and his family ⚓ fair winds and following seas as they begin their next chapter. 🇺🇸

Thank you for your faith and service, Chaplain Todd!

📚⚓ INSIDE A TRAINING DAY ⚓📚

Students at RP “A” School recently completed a Worship Facility Setup practical assessment, applying skills used to support chaplains and facilitate the free exercise of religion across the Fleet and Force.

Through hands-on training, future RPs are building the foundation to serve Sailors, Marines, and their families.

⚓Why did you join the Navy?
"I'm not always 100% sure why I joined, but at the time I did I had a pretty great life. Although I think I felt I needed something to change; a big change after something happened/changed in my life. I was trying/getting closer to God and looked up "jobs in the Navy that have to do with God," and ended up finding RP after taking the job test. I learned and read more about it and knew it was the only job I wanted, especially after studying psychology in college! It had both of my interests, my mom and dad are both also in the Navy so it was obviously the only option in my opinion. I also want to do the best I can at my job and work hard to get near or close to the same rank of or outranking my parents! I also prayed about it a lot and am following the path God leads me."

⚓Why did you join the Navy?
"I joined the Navy to have an opportunity to network and learn more skills that I can utilize. Joining via the Reserves allows me to have healthcare for myself and my family, as well as the opportunity to have my Master's Degree paid for so that I can be a great example of "SUCCESS" for my family and my community."
