TRACKING STORMS 6/1 7:45AM | We are tracking a large cluster of storms near St. Louis that could potentially bring some strong storms to parts of E TN later today.
There is still uncertainty in how well the cluster will hold together but *if* the storms can reach our area, they could produce damaging winds and hail.
Timing for this activity looks to be about 3pm to 8pm.
Check back for updates!

The Flood Watch for our area has expired without renewal.

All Swift Water Rescue Assets are rating to the EOC. EOC personnel have just left and I am ceasing operations for the time being.

There were no water borne incidents that we were called to respond to.

Please continue to assist those affected by this weeks flooding.

Have a safe weekend.

-Director Esway

The Flash Flood Watch has expired. A few showers, and possibly a storm, will remain in place through this evening. The risk for additional flooding is very low.

Additional scattered showers and storms are expected Sunday (mainly afternoon) through Monday.

Impacts: Isolated flooding is possible for any area that sees repeated rounds of showers and storms.

A few strong storms are possible on Monday. Aside from the flooding threat, isolated damaging wind gusts are the main concern.

I have recalled one County SWR Team to the EOC. I intend to send them to the Hartford/ Grassy Fork area as a prepositioned Asset.

As of now, a Flood WATCH remains in effect for Cocke County. There are no active emergencies as of this time stamp.

This is merely a tactic to reduce response time in an area of concern.

Newport City SWR has raised their alert status and are spun up.

Please exercise caution if you venture out.

The Emergency Operations Center is open and monitoring weather conditions.

There are no active warnings as of this time stamp.

I am holding Operations personnel where they are but are on standby if I decide to fully activate.

The County remains in Threat Condition 3.

SWR Teams are on heightened alert. Vehicles, gear and equipment are warmed up and ready to roll out.

Please advise on this thread any conditions that you may be concerned about in your area so I can begin plotting and predicting.

Stay safe!

It’s been a steady rain in Del Rio for a while.

What’s happening in your parts of the county?

This afternoon there was a motor vehicle accident involving a power pole that knocked out power to almost 1500 customers.

About 90 minutes ago, we noticed that one of our communication systems we use as back up for emergency responders was not functioning properly. We exhausted our limited experience so I placed a call to NU Leadership. I explained that the county is still in Threat Condition 3 and with an elevated flood risk until tomorrow afternoon, we needed that system back on line.

Newport Utility fiber optic technicians were immediately dispatched and they were able to diagnose the issue and the system was repaired and back on line within an hour of me placing the call.

I want to thank NU Leadership and the field experts who showed up and showed out. Emergency Responders and Citizens are safer tonight due to their quick and decisive action.

UPDATE | There is an elevated flooding potential overnight as showers and thundershower move into east Tennessee. With saturated ground and area streams filling up, flash flooding is the main concern. Watch the radar and have a plan to move to higher ground.
