I’ve received a plethora of text messages, comments, and phone calls supporting me and the race I ran. The majority of the time, the question asked is, “How do you feel?” The truth is, the answer to that question isn’t something I’m trying to hide.
As I stated on the The Town Square Podcast, I didn’t care about the tables, I didn’t care about my age, and I didn’t care about continuing something that isn’t working. So within that, I want to tell you that I’m fine. I’m at ease with the decision that was made because it was made by the people.
But what frustrates me—and what serves as a disease in the very flesh of my thoughts—is this: there are people out there longing for real solutions, people looking for real impact, and even people who feel hurt because they’ve been used.
I say all of this to say one simple thing: it’s not in me to quit. As the Dirty Birds used to famously say, “2 Legit 2 Quit.” This calling that I feel I have is legit. The emotions I feel deeply for other people are legit. And the ability to stand in the middle of a storm and fight for people who don’t know how to fight—or can’t fight for themselves—is legit.
So in closing, I’ll say it like my great friend Jamari Davon Orr stated in Bible study: don’t allow bo***ge to keep you. Don’t go back to Egypt. While we stand in the middle of the wilderness, we will keep on tracking until we get to Canaan.
Because what used to be is done, but what will happen is waiting on effort.
Thank you, District 4 & Newton County! I’ll see you in a little while 😉
