Newton Falls residents:

There is a new global scam targeting our senior residents.

Today a resident was close to being scammed out of thousands!

These hackers gain access into your laptop or desktop and create an alert to the owner stating the computer has viruses. While the hackers control the screen they are able to access your personal accounts including but not limited to bank accounts. Once they take control they provide a phone number to call and request credit card payment, wire transfer or in today’s case a $15,000 payment through a bitcoin atm accessible through Shop n Save.

Please beware of this scam. If you feel like there is any inclination that you are being scammed contact the police department immediately before you agree to process any form of payment. These scammers are evil and we want our residents to be aware and remain safe.
