The August Bergman House, an architect-designed wonder in the Mission Style, was constructed on an elevated corner site along Newton’s primary east-west corridor in 1909 – both site and design were reflections of the prominence of its first occupant.

Left side wall of the staircase of the porch is started.
The back porch is a smaller version of the front porch. Instead of doing railing, we opted for building side walls like on the main stairs of the front porch.
It will be a two-level wall. The stair being not as wide and big, the side walls will be smaller.
They will be capped by stone like the front walls.

In February, we started to build a storage room under the back staircase (for those who know the house, by the laundry room).
As always for our woodwork projects, we asked Luke from Great Planes Millwork to build us a door for that storage space.

We wanted the door to match the other doors of the house in style and feel, and more complicated, for the door to match the 117yo stain of the staircase.

Well, here we go...Once again an amazing work!! Even the bronze nail cover ornament inside the door frame are replicated!!

Today we added a plum tree and a nectarine tree to our little orchard.

Fantastic job as always from Chad and Crestwood Builders from Earlham!!

Now hopefully the mortar part starts on Saturday, including the building on the two small side walls on each part of the staircase to match what we have on the front porch.

We also have been reusing materials that were part of the original house for the construction.
