Two years of impact, compassion, and incredible teamwork đŸ’™đŸŸ

Today we’re celebrating Poppy and Delta on their 2-year anniversary of being certified Crisis Canines! In that time, these amazing dogs (and their dedicated handlers) have brought comfort into some of life’s hardest moments—supporting individuals in crisis, standing beside first responders, and helping communities begin to heal.

From quiet moments of connection to large-scale deployments, Poppy and Delta have made a lasting difference simply by showing up with steady hearts and wagging tails. Their presence reminds us all of the power of empathy, patience, and unconditional support.

Thank you, Poppy and Delta, for the countless lives you’ve touched—and to their handlers for the commitment, training, and care that make this work possible. Here’s to many more years of making a difference together 🩼🩼

Jasper County Sheriff Brad Shutts is proud to announce the introduction of Deputy Josh Britton and his Crisis Response Therapy Dog in training, John “Johnny Bolt”, as the new School Resource Officer (SRO) for the Baxter Community School District. This initiative is part of the Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and students.

Deputy Britton, a member of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, brings extensive experience in community policing, D.A.R.E. education, and youth engagement. Paired with Johnny, a Crisis Response Therapy Dog in training, the duo will provide a comforting and supportive presence in the school while also serving as a resource for students, faculty, and staff.

Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students is a top priority of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Britton and Johnny will not only help maintain a secure learning environment but also build meaningful connections with students.

Johnny, an in-training Crisis Response Therapy Dog, will be equipped to assist students experiencing stress, anxiety, or trauma. His presence in the school setting will provide emotional support and contribute to a more positive and inclusive environment once he is nationally certified this fall.

Deputy Britton and Johnny will begin their new roles beginning the 25/26 school year, engaging with students, providing safety education, and assisting in crisis situations as needed. This collaboration between the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and the Baxter Community School District reflects a shared commitment to proactive school safety and student well-being.

Deputy Decker and Delta visited Thomas Jefferson Elementary to talk to the preschool today!

Students learned on what a Crisis Canine does and why it’s important to take care of your animals!

Thanks for Newton Fire Department Kota for coming to the morning class!

We had a Crisis Canine in training tag along for the afternoon class to learn how to work in a school!

We think the kids enjoyed the most hearing what the dogs favorite treats were, Delta loves Cheetos!

At the end of the day a little boy came up to Deputy Decker and said, “ I want to be a Police officer just like you some day” đŸ„ș🩼 We hope you do buddy!
