Joelle Pederson is voting Yes for Newton!!!
“ This year’s budget crisis resulted in cuts to literacy specialist positions across all four middle schools. Many curriculum coordinators were also required to assume teaching roles. If the override does not pass, the district faces further reductions in both areas. Although students’ achievement has not returned to pre-pandemic levels, NPS will not have the personnel to provide a robust or equitable system of tiered supports for our striving readers. And if coordinator roles are not restored, students’ access to updated curriculum materials and evidence-based instructional practices will be compromised for the long term. My oldest child starts kindergarten in NPS next year. I want him to know that his community truly values public education and is committed to meeting the needs of every student who goes to school here.”
