Caring Hands Humane Society Caring Hands Humane Society is a 501c3 registered organization. We are a small humane society dedicated to finding a home for every animal entrusted to us.

We have reached the goal of being a “no kill community” in 2016 and have continued on that path every year since. We are committed to keeping that status every year from here out. A “No Kill Community” is an animal shelter that does not kill healthy or treatable animals even when the shelter is full, reserving euthanasia for terminally ill animals or those considered dangerous to public safety. During 2016, Caring Hands reached the goal with 90.42% and improved during 2017 to 93.1%. In 2018, we further increased that percentage to 95.66%! Behind those statistics are thousands of individual stories with happy endings because of your help! So many times when our resources were stretched to the limit, you came forward and brought food for the animals so they did not go hungry. You donated blankets so they were not cold. You gave them toys so they could have a little joy during their stay here. You saved their lives by providing foster homes until a kennel opened up or until they found their forever home. You sponsored their transport fees so they could go to rescues. You’ve supported us in our endeavors every time we have asked for your help. The companion animals here cannot speak, so on their behalf, we say thank you! The truth is, a shelter cannot achieve “no kill” status on its own. It takes a community. To find out how to take the next steps towards saving each and every animal, visit our volunteer, fostering, memberships, or donations pages. Remember, lives are saved one at a time!

VETERINARY TECHNICIAN APPRECIATION | This week we are celebrating two of our favorite essential workers at Caring Hands Humane Society... Rebecca and Icarus. We absolutely could NOT care for the thousands of animals that enter our doors without their dedication and hard work every single day! One of the veterinary staff's big goals has been to replace our microscope that we use for diagnostics for animal illnesses. We're coming to you for help to upgrade their microscope!

Our veterinary team relies on a microscope almost every day to find parasites, infections, skin conditions, and other health conersin shelter animals. Our current microscope is definitely showing its age (potentially from the 1990s) and we're raising funds for a much-need upgrade. A new microscope means giving the best possible care to each animal that enters our doors... We're able to diagnose faster, make more accurate treatments, and have better outcomes for each animal who depends on us.

Rebecca has spent time really researching the most cost effective and best match for our needs, and she found one that is $1,700 (compared to others at around $5000... moment of nonprofit budget shock). Please make a donation today, so we can show our extreme gratitude for the work they do for us. Every donation, no matter the size brings us closer to giving our veterinary team the tools they need to provide the highest level of care.

Fun fact: “tortoiseshell” or “tortie” refers to black and orange speckled coats that occur almost exclusively in female cats. Meanwhile, orange coloring typically occurs only in male cats!

🐾TRAP-NEUTER-RETURN ANNOUNCEMENT | Our team will be in the following areas for spay and neuter trapping for community cats...
📍200 block of S Burrton Ave in Burrton
📍300 block of S Reno Ave in Burrton
📍500 block of S Harvey Ave in Burrton

📅 Dates & Times of Trapping:
Friday, October 23rd - 5:00PM to 9:00PM
Saturday, October 24th - 6:30AM to 10:30AM, 5:00PM to 9:00PM

🖤Why TNR? TNR relieves cats of the constant stresses of mating and pregnancy. One main benefit of TNR to the cats is that the females don’t go through cycles of producing more and more kittens... so their health is actually improved. The community cats are also vaccinated for Rabies and FVRCP, so they’re less susceptible to infectious diseases (feline viral rhinotracheitis (caused by FHV-1), calicivirus, and panleukopenia.)

🐾Any suspected pets that are trapped will be held for a 3-day stray hold at CHHS. Owners can call 316.283.0839 if they are missing a cat. Cats do tend to roam, and even if you don't live in these specific areas, please be aware there is a possibility your cat could be trapped.
