Jasper County Announces Disaster Assistance Programs Following Flooding
NEWTON, IA – Following the severe flooding that impacted Jasper County beginning June 29, 2026, Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a State of Disaster Emergency proclamation that includes Jasper County. This proclamation activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and the Disaster Case Advocacy Program, providing assistance to eligible residents affected by the flooding.
Jasper County Emergency Management has been working with local, state, and community partners to assess damages and identify resources available to residents as recovery efforts continue.
Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program
The Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program may provide eligible households with up to $7,000 in assistance for disaster-related expenses not covered by insurance or other assistance programs.
Eligible expenses may include:
• Home repairs
• Vehicle repairs
• Replacement of personal property
• Food losses
• Temporary housing expenses
To qualify, applicants must have a household income at or below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level and be citizens or legally residing in the United States.
Disaster Case Advocacy Program
Disaster Case Advocacy is available at no cost to residents affected by the disaster and has no income requirements. Disaster case advocates work one-on-one with individuals and families to develop recovery plans, connect them with available resources, and provide ongoing assistance throughout the recovery process.
Residents Needing Assistance
Residents who experienced flood damage are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Information about both programs, including eligibility requirements and application materials, is available through the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
Jasper County residents who have not yet reported damage to their home are also encouraged to do so through the Jasper Ready app. Damage reports help Emergency Management document the overall impacts of the disaster and support requests for additional state and federal assistance.
Jasper County Emergency Management will continue working with state officials and local partners as damage assessments and recovery efforts move forward. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
