Here is some great information about how to check a nest if you think mom isn't coming back.
Wildlife Rehabilitators are getting overwhelmed with the amount of bunnies coming into care, it's important to make sure Mom is coming back before taking babies out of their nest. Their mothers are their best shot at survival. Baby bunnies can be very difficult to rehabilitate.

People also come across nests that have been dug up by wildlife or even their own dogs. If the babies are not injured, you can try your best to rebuild the nest and try this method to see if mom comes back.

This is some really great information! This time of year many concerned citizens call wildlife rehabilitators because they see foxes, skunks, raccoons, coyotes and even opossums out during the day.
They have babies to feed and will even hunt during the day to make sure their family is fed.
If you suspect an animal is sick, meaning they look lethargic, have an obvious injury, or is missing a lot of fur, call a wildlife rehabilitator.
