Have an old refrigeration unit that needs put out to pasture? Proper disposal is important. Our Solid Waste Department can help.

Solid Waste can accept refrigerants such as freezers, air conditioning units, refrigerators, dehumidifiers and water coolers. These appliances contain Freon, which can be harmful to the environment if not disposed of correctly.

Bring your refrigerants out to the scale house at Solid Waste, and we'll help get it off your hands. The fee to handle each refrigeration unit is $20. Solid Waste is located at 3205 SW 24th St. in Newton.

Here's to 35 years!

Jim Rippe, our foreman at Road and Bridge, retired today. He was our second-longest-tenured current employee.

"One of the best parts of working for Harvey County is the number of different people that I've met," Rippe said.

Along with his wealth of knowledge and experience, Rippe is known for his great personality and dependability. His retirement plans include travel, tinkering around his home and fixing up his tractors. But first up is turning off his alarm clock.

"I'm going to stay busy, to put it mildly," Rippe said.

Enjoy retirement, Rippe. You deserve it!

Did you know our driver's license office processes most common commercial driver's license renewals? We expanded our CDL service offerings earlier this year to include:

🚛 Renewal (all classes)
🚜 Replacement for a lost or stolen CDL
🚛 CDL name or address update
🚜 Out-of-state transfer to a Kansas CDL

One note: We can't do HAZMAT (H) or HAZMAT with tank (X) endorsements. You can get those at full service offices, such as Wichita or McPherson.
