Moving soon? Save these tips! When in doubt, check the Recyclopedia at https://recyclesmartma.org.

For stuff that isn't coming with you:
➡️Give items to neighbors via local gifting or secondhand groups online.
➡️ Check out the Resource Recovery Center (https://www.newtonma.gov/rrc) to see what you can drop off to be recycled and/or reused
➡️Use the Beyond the Bin search tool (https://recyclesmartma.org/beyond-the-bin-search/) to see where to bring items including textiles, small appliances, furniture, and mattresses.

Did you read the Summer Edition of the Green Cart Chronicle? Click on the link to read up on the summer recycling education campaign aimed to prevent contamination. Why? Because over the past year, two audits have found that approximately 22% of the material placed in recycling carts is actually contamination—items that do not belong in curbside recycling. The most common contaminant was recyclables placed inside of paper bags.

You may see workers in yellow vests staff lifting up the lid on your recycling cart. If unacceptable items are found in a recycling cart, residents may receive educational information explaining how to recycle correctly.

💯Ace back-to-school shopping with these tips to go green... and save a little green, too.💵

The urge to load up on new stuff is real, but don't forget, the most sustainable option is stuff you already have! See if there are some things you can reuse from last year, and check for secondhand stuff when you can.

Tell us your sustainable back-to-school tips in the comments!
