Disposing of these products properly is crucial to reducing toxins in our bodies and our environment. Certain types of HHW have the potential to cause physical injury to sanitation workers, contaminate septic tanks or wastewater treatment systems if poured down drains or toilets. They can also present hazards to children and pets if left around the house, so make sure you are disposing of them properly!

Don't forget to check out the accepted items list at: www.newtonma.gov/hhw

This event is for Newton residents only – proof of residency is required.

95% of textiles thrown away in MA could be reused or repurposed! Take old clothes, shoes, bedding, etc., to textile collection bins. Bins accept the good, the bad and the ugly! Clean, dry clothes (stained, ripped is ok.) Good-condition items are sold at secondhand shops, while worn/torn textiles are turned into rags, insulation, and more.

There are several options for textile recycling:
👚 Blue colored Helpsy bins**
👛 Cradles to Crayon bins
👢 Yellow colored Planet Aid bins
🧤 And more!

**The Helpsy bins at the schools generate a small amount of money to support our Green Teams!

Keep your ropes, cords, hoses, light strings and wires out of your bin. These items (called tanglers) jam sorting machinery by wrapping around the equipment discs and wheels, which is dangerous for workers.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there (cat moms & plant moms included)! If you got flowers, remember the glass vase can't be recycled 💐 . Glass vases melt at different temperatures than jars and bottles and become a when they're melted to make new products.

If the vase is in good condition, save it to pass along to someone else or donate to a thrift store. Vases are a great item to pick up or drop off at the Swap Shop (open Thursdays to Saturday mornings)
