Cindy Sigmon has been a faithful volunteer at Ashure Ministry for many years, but her real journey here began shortly after retirement. A few months after leaving her career as a dental hygienist, Cindy attended the Share the Harvest event with (then) Board President Donna Sharman. She had long been familiar with Ashure Ministry, but that evening gave her something more—a clear sense that this was a place where she was called to serve.

Since 2019, Cindy has served on the board of directors, contributed to numerous committees, and volunteered consistently wherever help is needed. She first began in the food pantry, where she loved seeing the work up close and watching it directly impact the individuals and families coming through the pickup line. Her gift for organization quickly became invaluable. Cindy often sorted and arranged mixed food bins, so volunteers could easily see what was available when building food boxes. Her attention to detail made the process smoother for everyone.

Cindy was also one of a small group of volunteers who continued serving during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, helping Ashure Ministry navigate an uncertain and demanding season.

Today, Cindy volunteers in the front office, assisting with administrative tasks, but her heart for service remains the same. She shares that no matter in what area she serves, she feels the presence of Christ in the work being done. Being “the hands and feet of Christ” is what continues to draw her back each week. She also values the sense of community among the volunteers and staff who serve with compassion and purpose.

Of course, Cindy brings some fun with her as well. A devoted Tar Heel fan, she proudly wears her Carolina blue during March Madness and enjoys a little friendly rivalry with Allen, Director of Volunteer Engagement, and Wolfpack fan extraordinaire. Her husband, Roy, joins in the fun by helping collect pallets of food donations from his workplace, proudly adding them to Cindy’s UNC team total.

More than anything, Cindy is a passionate advocate for Ashure Ministry. She regularly speaks with her church friends and others in the community about the work being done here, encouraging them to get involved through time, financial support, and/or prayer.

Cindy, thank you for the dedication, joy, and faithfulness shown in the many ways you serve. It’s thanks to volunteers like you, that we have been able to be an extension of Christ’s work for over 55 years. As you’ve shared, “I'll keep serving until I have nothing left to give.” That faithfulness is a gift, and we are deeply thankful for the heart you bring to God’s work here at Ashure Ministry. God bless you, Cindy.

Ashure Ministry is looking for a few additional volunteers to help on Wednesday afternoons in our food pantry. As the number of individuals and families we serve continues to grow, we could really use some extra hands during one of our busiest times of the week.

We are especially in need of volunteers who can help build food carts or assist with food distribution at the client door.

If you are interested in serving, please contact our Volunteer Engagement Director, Allen Sherrill, at [email protected].
