Ashton Observatory will be CLOSED 🚫
this coming Saturday, May 16, 2026‼️

This will allow many DMAS club members who run the telescopes in the domes and assist visitors to attend our Regional Annual Conference this weekend. 😀

A heads up for trail users. Trail head in Baxter will remain open!

As part of the Rippey Intersection and Chichaqua Trail Improvements Project, the roadway from Watson Street to State Street will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday, May 18th for construction and intersection improvements.

Please follow all posted detour signs and use caution in the construction area.

Residents directly affected by the closure will be contacted individually by the contractor regarding access during construction.

Thank you for your patience as we continue making improvements to our community!

Conservation UTV tours are back! ☀ Each day has 3 available time slots - 9am, 10am, and 11am. The UTV comfortably fits 3 guests, but 4 guests is possible. Call us to book your free tour at 641-792-9780.

It's open water season again for the Jasper County Youth Fishing Club! The kids had a great time Monday night applying their knowledge about the pre-spawn, and landing some dandy fish!

Summer camp registration opens today at 12:00 PM! Please register your child for only 2 camps at this time. There will be opportunities starting next week to add additional camps.

Lynne Whelan, Director of the Jasper County Historical Society and Museum, shared lots of little treasures from the museum at our monthly OWLS program. Our museum in Newton is most certainly a community treasure and we thank Lynne for all she does!
