Over the last year and a half, North Newton resident G.S. Houser has self-published three novels he wrote between 1987 and 2010. his first, "Holy Fire," is a historical novel set in the 19th century. His second, "Murder at Maple Street Mennonite," is a murder mystery that's more of a why-done-it than a whodunnit. His thirs is "The Land of Passions," an epistolary novel that explores what it means to be considered insane in an insane society.

Meet G.S. Houser during Newton Public Library's author fair, 1:30 to 3:30 PM on Saturday, Nov. 7! Our second annual Local Author Day also includes an 11 AM panel discussion, with The SHOUT editor Emily Christensen and PBS Kansas's "Inside the Cover" host, Ted Ayres!

Next Thursday (10/29) Newton Public Library will be closed so our staff may go to the Kansas Library Association Conference. These events are a chance for us to learn how to help and strengthen our community to better serve you!

We will open again at regular operating hours Friday (10/30) from 9AM-6PM, so plan your trip accordingly.

UPDATE: Our internet is working now! Everything is fully operational.

NPL currently does not have internet. We cannot fax, take phone calls, and our patron computers are down. All checkouts will have to be done at the front desk. We will let you know when internet comes back up.

Teens (ages 10-18) are invited to join us for Dash Robots next Tuesday (10/27) at 4PM. STEM with coding, programming, and robotics! We will learn and work with programming and coding to complete various courses and tasks with Dash. Dash is a quirky little robot with many surprising talents. We will have several Dash Robots along with tablets for youth to work in pairs to compete against other teams to complete challenges. Presented at the Newton Public Library in partnership with K-State Extension.

Teens and tweens ages 10-18, join the Harvey County Health Department tomorrow, Oct. 20, from 3:30 to 5 PM for a hands-on craft activity: designing custom yard signs that remind drivers to slow down and stay alert! Come hang out and help reclaim the streets so everyone can get around safely!

Next Tuesday (10/27) at 6:30 PM be sure to come to the Newton Public Library to enjoy "Show & Tell"

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for socializing, with cookies and beverages provided by the library. Participants are also welcome to bring a snack or treat to share. The show-and-tell portion of the program will start around 7 p.m where people will give a 3-to-5-minute talk, highlighting up to five photos apiece showcasing their photography.
