Elder abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, financial or simple neglect. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day endeavors to bring attention to the harm elder abuse can create, and take steps to foster supportive environments for older adults.

Signs of elder abuse can include isolation, changing financial habits or changing behaviors. If you or someone you know is experiencing elder abuse, contact 911.

Caregivers may feel stressed taking care of a loved one. The Department on Aging can connect you with services and resources that can help. Call the office at 316-284-6880.

During an emergency, call 911 if you can. But if you're in a situation where you can't speak or don't feel comfortable speaking, you can text 911.

You can contact a dispatcher in an emergency by sending a text message to 911. Please use straightforward, clear, direct language in the message (skip abbreviations, emojis, etc.).

Our dispatchers are available by call - or text - 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
