Maytag Pool has something for every kind of swimmer.

Zero-entry access makes it easy for young kids and families to get in the water. Two water slides and a zipline are ready for the thrill-seekers. A diving well, a play feature, and six 25-meter lap lanes round out the options — all inside historic Maytag Park at 301 S 11th Ave W.

Open swim runs daily from 1–6 p.m., with extended evening hours until 9 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. The pool opens June 1.

The swings at Aurora Park are temporarily out of service. A weld on the frame has broken, and the swings have been removed while the Parks team evaluates the best repair approach. The rest of the park remains open. An update will be shared once a repair timeline is confirmed.

Parks Division staff and elected officials recently traveled to Ames to tour and discuss a newly installed inclusive playground. The group returned with fresh ideas and strong enthusiasm for bringing an inclusive playground to Newton, a project included in the community’s most recent bond initiative.

Inclusive playgrounds are thoughtfully designed play spaces that allow children of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities—both with and without disabilities—to play, learn, and explore together.

Summer is closer than you think — and so is Maytag Pool.

The pool opens June 1, and season passes are on sale now. A pass costs $50 per person and covers the entire summer through Aug. 16. Daily open swim is $6 per visit, so your pass pays for itself in fewer than nine trips.

Passes are purchased online and take up to one week to process, so now is a good time to plan ahead. Children 3 and under get in free and do not need a pass.

Students from NCSD Cardinals took part in Red Pride Service Day, their annual community service initiative, by helping with cleanup efforts at several City parks and locations throughout Newton. Some students even went above and beyond by removing a tire from the creek at Agnes Patterson Memorial Park. We appreciate their dedication and commitment to helping keep our community clean, welcoming, and well maintained.
