Join us for a day of Indigenous cultural celebrations, traditional drumming and dancing, educational demonstrations, Indigenous artists and vendors, delicious food, children’s activities, and community connections!

All festivities will now take place indoors, where we can gather comfortably and continue honoring Indigenous Peoples, our ancestors, and our living traditions.

The Cooper Center will be closed on Monday, October 12, for Indigenous Peoples' Day.

The 6th Annual Indigenous Peoples Day Newton Celebration will take place on October 12 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Newton North High School, 457 Walnut Street, Newtonville. Do you have questions about using the MBTA? If so, join us tomorrow, Wednesday, October 7, at 1:30 pm for “MBTA Accessibility and Senior Charlie Cards 101.”

Staff from the MBTA Mobility Center will discuss how to sign up for reduced fares, board accessibly, and find priority seats. They will also explain how to navigate the map, use the MBTA Trip Planner, ask for help when traveling, and how to sign up for free 1-on-1 Travel Training. Additionally, they will cover recent progress in accessibility and will assist participants with a Senior CharlieCard application at the end of the program.

If you’d like to apply for a Senior CharlieCard, please bring a government-issued photo ID. If you are under 65 and would like an Income-Eligible Reduced Fare, based on receiving state benefits (SNAP, MassHealth, or MASSGrant), also bring your benefits verification letter from the past three months.

Visit the Cooper Center through November 30 to enjoy a dazzling array of artwork on all three floors.

On the first and second floors, view "Rhythm of Life," a show of 56 new works by members of the Newton Art Association (NAA). Thank you to NAA Exhibitions Co-Chairs Garrow Throop and Christina Yee for curating this vibrant collection of artwork in a variety of media. The NAA will hold its award ceremony and reception for this show on Thursday, October 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cooper Center. The event is open to the public.

On the third floor, check out "Chromatic Conversations," Victoria Riccardi's series of mixed-media abstracts celebrating the artist's love of color, elegant shapes, and collage. Riccardi writes: "A year spent cooking in Paris, France, taught me the pleasure of abundance, which shows up in these pieces through layering and embellishment. A year living in Kyoto, Japan, taught me to use space as a design element."

Both shows are free and open to the public.

Join us for Newtonville Village Day!

Newtonville Village Day is like a giant block party that features dozens of craft and vendor booths, treats from area restaurants, and family activities. This year's event will take place on Sunday, September 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Cooper Center will hold an Open House during that time, featuring special events, activities, and tours. You are warmly invited to attend.

Our first evening trivia party – aka “Games with James” – was a huge success last night. Forty-five people attended, enjoying pizza, friendly competition, and a lot of laughs.

Missed the fun? James will host every Monday, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Come alone or with a friend or two, and we will seat you with other individual participants. You are also welcome to come with a pre-formed group (4-6 people). Arrive between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. for pizza; trivia begins at 6:30.

Event fee: $5, which includes 2 slices of pizza. Pay when you arrive and sign in at the kiosk.
