Newton VFD is pleased to announce that it has received a grant for Personal Protective Gear through the Rural VFD Assistance program.
This $25,000 cost-share grant will provide 95% funding for the purchase of new gear. This award marks the second grant we have received from Texas Forest Service this year.
Given that Personal Protective Gear is the second-highest expense for rural volunteer fire departments, after apparatus, this grant is particularly significant.
The funding will be used to acquire wildland firefighting gear for our department. The cost of outfitting a single firefighter with this gear is around $1,000-$1,500.
