GOOD NEWS! The Senate just tabled HB 751, the final legislative proposal to mandate statewide open enrollment. Thanks to everyone who has taken action this session to make this happen!

As we’ve said throughout this session—statewide mandatory open enrollment was not ready for prime time and would have irrevocably harmed the delivery of public education in New Hampshire.

Students succeed when their schools are adequately staffed, properly funded, and able to provide consistent academic, social, and emotional support. The open enrollment proposals considered this session failed to answer critical questions about how districts would maintain class sizes, transportation, special education services, extracurricular opportunities, and student support systems if enrollment and funding shifted unpredictably from year to year. For many students, especially those in rural communities or districts already facing resource challenges, that uncertainty could have meant fewer opportunities and less individualized support.

New Hampshire educators remain committed to working with lawmakers across the political spectrum to advance student-centered solutions that expand opportunity responsibly while protecting educational quality and stability for all students.

HB 609 (aka, Republicans' latest try at "campus carry") is dead. It's finally over. 😊

BREAKING NEWS: The Legislature has adopted the Committee of Conference report on HB 1300, which means this school tax cap bill will next go to Governor Ayotte for her action.

As amended, this bill is the latest attempt by anti-public education lawmakers to arbitrarily cap school budgets by requiring tax cap votes on the General Election ballot in November of 2026 and 2028. Today’s vote follows previous failed efforts to arbitrarily cap local school budgets, including HB 675 (which the House defeated in January) as well as annual school meeting votes across the state in March of 2026 and March of 2025 to cap local school budgets.

Press Release: Republicans: Tax Cuts for Corporations, Tax Hikes for You

06/04/2026

For more than a week, Republican Rep. Kristin Noble repeatedly tried to garner feedback from the governor about one of the most high-profile pieces of legislation this year. Noble, the chair of a House education committee and one of the prime architects of the universal open enrollment bill, said sh...

The full House and Senate both have their last session day on June 4. Please take a few minutes to take action on these bills.

❌ OPPOSE HB1709: This bill would mandate that landlords and sheriffs conduct immigration enforcement against NH renters.

Urge state lawmakers to focus on real solutions to NH's unaffordable housing crisis, not on harming community members already facing skyrocketing housing costs or eviction.

Use this action alert to send a message directly to your legislator: https://action.aclu.org/send-message/nh-immigrants-rights

Join Kent Street Coalition and other activists at the NH State House (107 N. Main St. Concord) on Thursday, June 4 at 8am-10am, to hold signs and speak directly with legislators.

Bring your own sign or make one there (supplies will be provided!)

❌ OPPOSE SB552 and HB1442: These are anti-transgender bathroom/locker room bills. These bills legalize discrimination based on "biological s*x," erasing inters*x individuals and raising safety concerns.

Urge the governor to veto all anti-transgender bills reaching her desk.

❌ OPPOSE SB434: This is a bill that would allow books, art, films and videos, visual media like drawings and photographs, live performances, dances, guest speakers, and other material to be banned in our public schools. The bill is headed to Governor Ayotte’s desk.

Contact the governor and ask her to VETO SB434.

❌ OPPOSE HB1300: This bill would create a state-mandated school tax cap process that undermines local control, weakens New Hampshire's town meeting tradition, and could create confusion and unintended consequences for communities across the state.

Call and/or email your State Representative before the House vote and urge them to VOTE NO on HB 1300.

❌ OPPOSE HB751: This bill would allow New Hampshire students to go to any public school in the state and take their state education aid with them.

Please call and/or email your your State Representatives, Senators and the Governor before Thursday and urge them to vote NO on HB751

Bill Watch: An eleventh-hour change has brought us yet another version of an open enrollment bill, this one appearing to be more limited but possibly even more consequential than previous versions.
