I have called him Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Chief and now Sheriff. But, the most important thing I have called him is friend for the past 29 years. Thank you for everything Don Brown.

Our Children Our Future

Hi, I’m Tim Hayes candidate for Newton-Conover School Board. Thanks everyone for visiting my page. Please allow me a minute to tell you about myself. I attended Catawba County Schools graduating from Fred T. Foard High School. I have an Associate of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration. I have been employed with the City of Newton for over twenty years. I am married to the former Leah Byrd, a Kindergarten teacher, and have one son who attends South Newton Elementary.

I am running for school board with two visions. One is of a school board that is encouraging of the educational growth of our children. Encouragement is a simple but often understated form of support that can inspire a child to learn and enjoy their educational career from elementary school to college. Encouragement is what helps make the dreams of young children one day become reality. The eminent psychiatrist Rudolf Dreikurs claimed: “The most important skill for raising a child in a democracy is the ability to encourage that child” (1971).

I also envision a school board who plays a supporting role in our children’s educational career. A school board should provide support by supplying the same tools to all children so they may reach their greatest potential. Our children also need to be supported by parents being involved in the classroom, homework and participating in school activities. Support is the foundation to a confident child and a confident child is a learning child.

Both of these visions also apply to educators and school staff. I’m in Newton-Conover schools almost every day of the week. I understand the tough task handed to teachers and staff during these uncertain times. It is neither fair nor responsible to ask our educators to provide the best education possible without giving them every tool to accomplish this goal.

On November 5th, you will be asked to make a selection for Newton-Conover School Board. If you believe in encouragement and support for our children and educators please vote for Tim Hayes.
