Took a track close to home a couple nights ago. After a conversation with the hunter it sounded like a home run for the dog. My pup Bavarian Mountain Hound, Margo made her debut. This hunter (shooting traditional) put all of his trust in us and was completely fine with running this pup. Neeko stayed back at the truck for backup incase things got sketchy or complicated.
I trained this pup since day one, all the way up to deer season. With the amount of calls and requests this season for Neeko, her training was put on a temp hold.
Andddd well... things got sketchy but she kept grinding and working through things with multiple resets. This deer made several loops and curves. We ended up going 1,000+ yds with a few drops of blood at the end and she lost complete interest. It was agreed upon the hunter to go back in the morning and check to make sure we didnt miss something. At first it was believed to be a possible heart shot, except the deer was quartered away and shot placement was off. The hunter went out in the morning to do more walking and searching and came up empty handed. I have no doubt this deer will keep on keeping on!
Im sure the hunter will see my post. Thanks for having your full trust, patience, and understandings in us. Margo is going to be something special as we continue to train. She says since it was her 1st live track that you'll be receiving something nice from us in the off season!!!
*pic is from after the track. Exhausted and attached to me to say the least
