Discovery High School at Newton-Conover Discovery High School focuses on personalized education through project-based learning. We have approximately 135 students enrolled in grades 9-12.

Discovery High School, formerly Newton-Conover Health Science High School, is a small public high school with the Newton-Conover City School System. Discovery owes existence to the Newton-Conover City School Board of Education, North Carolina New Schools Project, and the dedicated teachers and staff who work there.

Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope that everyone is doing well. What a terrific first week we had! I am looking forward to continuing that momentum. Below are the announcements for the upcoming week.

We will begin our regular schedule on Monday. You will go to your period 11 or 1st period class when you leave the gym or cafeteria at 7:30.

Underclassmen pictures will take place on Thursday September 3rd. Please refer to the attachment for more information.

Our teachers will be available after school for any student who has questions or needs extra help. Refer to the schedule below to see when each teacher will be available.
Mr. Crosson - Tuesdays 3-4
Ms. Greenwald - Available most afternoons after school; she will post her weely availability in her classroom
Ms. Isenhour - Tuesdays 3-4
Ms. Ward - Mondays and Fridays 3-3:30

There will be no school on Monday September 7th due to the Labor Day holiday.

We Still Need Your Voice!

As we approach the September 2–3 State Board of Education meeting, it is important that we continue telling the story of Newton-Conover City Schools and making sure the State Board understands the educational impact, financial impact, and community impact of the proposed merger.

Chairman Davis has indicated that the timeline and next steps will be discussed at the upcoming meeting. This means our voices still matter, and we want the State Board to have a clear understanding of what is best for our students, staff, schools, and community.

If you have not yet shared your support, please take a few minutes to write a letter. And yes, you can send more than one letter! We encourage supporters to continue sharing their personal experiences, perspectives, and reasons why maintaining Newton-Conover City Schools matters.

Good afternoon Discovery family! We are so excited to start the 2026-27 school year and anticipate it being the best ever. Please see this week's announcements below.

All students should plan to be here by 7:38 each day this upcoming week. Remember that you are counted tardy if you are not in your classroom by 7:40. Gym doors will open for students at 7:10 each morning.

Breakfast is free for all students again this year and will be served in the cafeteria 7:10-7:38.

Car riders will be dropped off and picked up at the semi-circle drive at the gym this year. There will be signage there directing parents where to go. Please be sure to follow this pattern to keep everyone safe.

We will follow the below schedule during this first week of school:

1st Period 8:20-9:50
11 period 8:20-9:03
12 period 9:05-9:50
2nd Period 9:55-11:20
21 period 9:55-10:36
22 period 10:38-11:20

Students who ride a bus home after school will catch a shuttle down by our marquee sign at 2:40 each day (Bus 131). If you are a bus rider and need to know what bus you'll ride, please see Mr. Whitener in the cafeteria tomorrow.
