The 2026 primary election results for Harvey County were certified yesterday.
There were 9,552 ballots cast out of the 23,072 registered voters in our county, equating to a 41.4% turnout. Thank you to everyone who cast a ballot in this election. We're also appreciative for all of our poll workers and staff who help make our elections smooth and successful.
The canvass board was comprised of the three county commissioners. They reviewed 145 provisional ballots and four challenged ballots. Ninety-three provisional and the four challenged ballots were accepted in the final vote count.
Common examples of provisional ballots that were counted were name changes or voters who moved within the county but hadn't updated their registration information. The most frequent reason a provisional ballot is not counted is due to the voter not being registered to vote in Harvey County.
The four challenged ballots were individuals who returned an advance-by-mail ballot but initially failed to sign the ballot. Our office attempts to contact the voter to have them correct that before the canvass, and in these cases, that requirement was met.
We mailed out 1,201 advance-by-mail ballots to voters who requested one, and 846 were returned and counted. Early in-person voting was available for the two weeks prior to Election Day, Aug. 4, and 1,893 voters cast their ballot early at the Harvey County Courthouse.
