Harvey County certified the results of the Newton USD 373 special bond election today during an election canvass. The ballot measure passed.

There were 3,459 ballots tabulated out of 14,912 registered voters in the district, equating to a 23% turnout. There were 2,231 yes votes and 1,228 no votes.

The election board reviewed 33 provisional ballots, of which 25 were accepted in the final count. Common examples of a provisional ballot being counted are a voter who moved addresses within the district or had a name change. The majority of ballots not counted were individuals not registered to vote in the district. The election board was comprised of county commissioners Becky Reimer, Don Schroeder and Terry Scott.

There were 696 early in-person voters at the Harvey County Courthouse in the two weeks leading up to Election Day. There were 852 advance-by-mail ballots sent out to individuals who requested one, and 499 were returned and accepted.

Thank you to everyone who cast their ballot in this election, as well as the poll workers and staff who helped with the coordination.
