🚨 Standoff Ends in Arrest 🚨

On Friday, August 14, 2026, at approximately 11:45 a.m., the Newton County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a domestic disturbance in the 600 block of Bill Rowe Road in Newton.

Upon arrival, deputies were able to safely remove a female victim from the property. She advised deputies that a male known to her had forced his way into the residence, assaulted her, and then fled to a travel trailer located on the same property.

The suspect, identified as Jason Felton, was wanted on two felony warrants out of Virginia with full extradition.

Newton County Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with Newton Police Department officers, attempted to make contact with Felton and have him exit the travel trailer. Felton refused to comply with commands and barricaded himself inside of the travel trailer.

After numerous attempts to negotiate with Felton, law enforcement breached the door of the travel trailer and deployed a diversionary distraction device. Following the deployment, Felton began complying with commands and exited the trailer without incident.

Felton was placed under arrest and transported to the Newton County Jail on the outstanding Virginia warrants. The investigation into the family violence remains ongoing.

Sheriff Colton Havard would like to express his appreciation to all NCSO personnel involved in the incident, as well as the Newton Police Department, the Jasper Police Department’s Safe Street Division and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance to bring this incident to a peaceful resolution.
