High E. coli Levels in Crystal Lake: Beach Closed for the Season

Crystal Lake is now closed for the season two days earlier than planned after the final test of the swim season came back with elevated E. coli levels. No one – people or pets – should have contact with the water.

The last day of the official season with lifeguards at the beach was scheduled to be this Sunday, Aug. 16.

Recreational activity in water with high E. coli levels can cause gastrointestinal and other symptoms including sore throats and runny noses, earaches, and itchiness. For any health-related symptoms or concerns, please contact your primary health care provider.

More information is available from the State Department of Public Health at mass.gov/beach-water-quality.

E. coli at Crystal Lake Returns to Safe Levels

Good news – The latest test results are back, and the beach at Crystal Lake will be reopened for swimming with lifeguards on duty tomorrow morning on schedule - https://www.newtonma.gov/government/parks-recreation-culture/aquatics/crystal-lake

The latest test results show E. coli has returned to safe levels at Crystal Lake. The lake was temporarily closed last Friday after routine weekly testing showed elevated levels of E. coli.

Thank you for your patience while we took this health precaution.
