Newton Food Pantry

Newton Food Pantry Bringing Our Community Together. One Bag at a Time. Founded in 1983, the Newton Food Pantry is the oldest and largest food pantry in the city.

For more than 40 years the Newton Food Pantry has provided food and personal care items to residents of our city who experience food insecurity. Although Newton is viewed as an affluent suburb of Boston, 1-in-8 households survive on less than $26,000 in annual income. The Newton Food Pantry currently provides supplemental food to more than 2,350+ Newton residents annually. Our clients can shop for

a free 5-day supply of nutritionally balanced food twice per month. Those in need will find our shelves stocked with fresh produce, dairy, proteins, personal care items, and culturally-relevant foods. In order to continue to fulfill our mission to provide nutritionally balanced supplemental food to Newton residents experiencing food insecurity, we need and appreciate your support. Want to help us stock our shelves? The Newton Food Pantry now accepts donations of nonperishable foods and personal-care items 7 days a week. Drop-offs can be made via a secure outdoor bin located outside our brand-new food pantry at 131 Rumford Avenue (between Extra Space Storage and the City’s recycling center). The bin is next to our warehouse door.

Personal-care items include toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, and baby diapers, among others. Shelf-stable specialty/international foods, coffee, tea, and pasta sauces are uniquely desirable.

All donations (no expired items, please) will be distributed to clients through our choice pantry. Thank you for your support!

It's not your imagination. The price of fresh fruits and vegetables at grocery stores continues to skyrocket! Here in the Greater Newton area, the cost of fresh produce has gone up 7.4% over the past year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. 7.4%!!!

The Newton Food Pantry spends significant resources every week to stock our shelves with healthy and nutritious foods. Atop that list are fresh fruits and vegetables, which, for those struggling to make ends meet, are often the most cost-prohibitive at grocery stores.

We built a brand-new food pantry in Newton (131 Rumford Avenue) to meet the rising need for hunger relief throughout the city. Learn more about our services at https://newtonfoodpantry.org/get-help/.

We have so much appreciation for the local businesses that support our work each week. Great Harvest Bread Company, Newtonville MA, for example, donates dozens of loaves of freshly baked bread to the Newton Food Pantry every Wednesday...and our clients love them! What's more fundamental than bread?!?

The Newton Food Pantry provides healthy and nutritious food assistance to nearly 3,000 local residents in need. We simply could not help feed that many people without the support of area businesses, residents, community groups, foundations, and others. Thank you!

The Newton Food Pantry is putting money where the mouths are. With our new rooftop solar installation, we’ll both help the environment and put even more of our operating expenses toward the fresh and healthy foods our clients need. Let the sun shine on all who support hunger relief!

Our brand-new food pantry on Rumford Avenue in Auburndale is doing exactly what we had hoped. It’s allowing us to provide much-needed food assistance to even MORE Newton residents in need!

This week, we serving a whopping 339 households! Every one of them left our choice pantry with a week’s worth of fresh produce, meats, eggs, dairy and so much more.

The Newton Food Pantry is already the largest nonprofit hunger-relief organization dedicated to Newton residents, and we will continue to meet the growing need for food assistance throughout the city. Thank you to our many volunteers for their ongoing help and support!!

The cost of food continues to climb. Inflation, sky-high fuel prices, and ongoing public health pressures are driving them higher. At the same time, America’s social safety net is shrinking. One year after passage of the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” more than 600 Newton residents have lost access to their SNAP benefits — essential funds used exclusively to purchase groceries.

Your support of the Newton Food Pantry can help us meet this moment. And in a big way this month! Thanks to a generous match challenge, every donation we receive in July will be DOUBLED — dollar for dollar — up to $50,000, helping ensure that every family in Newton has reliable access to nutritious food during a time of growing need.

If you are in a position to help us, we sure would appreciate it! https://newtonfoodpantry.org/give-help/donate-money/

Now that we have a brand-new food pantry, we need your help to stock it each week with fresh and nutritious foods for those in need. To kick off our new fiscal year on July 1, the Berlin Family Foundation has generously pledged to match every dollar we raise this month — UP TO $50,000!

Simply make your donation online through our website (https://newtonfoodpantry.org/give-help/donate-money/), mail a check to our new address (131 Rumford Avenue, Auburndale, MA 02466), or give through your donor-advised fund or required minimum distribution (please note our new address). Every dollar you donate in July will have twice the power to fight hunger in our community!
