Newtown Square Fire Company Founded 1916. Our long and proud tradition of volunteer fire service began in 1916. This coverage population expands greatly during the workday.

Our Mission is to provide prompt and effective fire, rescue and fire police services to the residents of Newtown Township and Willistown Township on a continuous basis by a highly qualified group of trained individuals. From then until now citizens of Newtown Township have responded when the call for help was sounded. Whether a gong hit by a hammer of 1916, or an alert pager of today to communicate that there is an emergency, the spirit of helping neighbors in time of need has not changed. What is significantly different since those early days is the dimensions of the emergencies being faced. As contrasted with the barn fires of the past, today's fire fighter must deal with vehicle entrapment, hazardous materials, high angle rescue, and many other situations that were never even thought about by our founders. To deal with these emergencies and provide for the safety of the fire fighters, requires a high level of training, sophisticated equipment, personal protective gear and modern fire vehicles. Located near the center of town our current fire station (built in 1962) sits on the exact site of the original station. From this location we provide fire, rescue and fire police to Newtown Township and a select part of Willistown Township. Newtown Township is approximately 14.2 square miles and has a resident population of 12,216. Fire and other responses average 750 calls per year. A typical response for fire fighters can range from an automatic fire alarm, to a vehicle accident, to an elevator rescue, to a fully involved structure fire. Our fire company must be ready to deal effectively with these types of emergencies and more. People are the most important resource of any fire company. Fire fighter safety, training and retention are our top priority. Part of the formula to help make our personnel as effective as possible in performing their duties are the vehicles used by the fire fighters. In addition to delivering the fire fighters to the scene of the emergency, a modern fire truck not only pumps water or foam on flames at a high volume, but also carries a wide array of tools and equipment. Newtown Square Fire Company has a fleet of vehicles which includes a fire police, command, engine/pumper, a rescue and a ladder truck which are configured to handle multiple types of emergencies.

Oct 20, 2026. Another very busy afternoon for the volunteers of the Newtown Square Fire Company!

It all began at 6:05 pm with a call for a fire alarm on Baldwin Lane in the Liseter Development. This alarm was determined to be a false alarm, however the evening wouldn’t remain quiet for long. Just 7 minutes later the fire company was dispatched Boot Road and West Chester Pike for an accident with injuries (see pictures). Arriving units., Engine 41 and Deputy Chief Mike Kenny, found a two vehicle accident with one injury and westbound traffic blocked. Units on scene assisted EMS, cleaned the debris from the roadway and directed traffic to make the scene safe for all.

Not long after getting back to the station from the accident call the company was dispatched to Wisteria Drive for a fire alarm. Thankfully, this too was a false alarm.

Just 3 minutes later at 7:13pm the company was dispatched for Traffic 41 to assist the Broomall Fire Company with shutting down the Blue Route (I476) due to a serious crash involving a motorcycle.

Thankfully the volunteers were able to get some rest overnight before the next call would come in today at 7:14am for a fire alarm on Park Avenue, which was determined to be a false alarm.

Although we describe the fire alarms as being “false” in nature, it does not mean there wasn’t some sort of smoke that set them off, like overcooked food on the stove or microwave. We always encourage the use of fire alarms, they do save lives!

Each week, we want to take some time to recognize our volunteers who dedicate their time to the Newtown Square Fire Company.

Next up- Donna Mansi

Donna is a Life Member of the fire company who joined as an Auxiliary member in 2003, and is currently the Auxiliary President. Since joining she also has served as a House member. When asked why she decided to join, Donna said “My amazing neighbor at the time invited me to an Auxiliary Meeting and I instantly knew it was something I wanted to get involved in. Supporting the fire fighters and planning fundraisers to support and raise funds for the Fire Company!”

Outside of the fire company, Donna is a Licensed Insurance Agent and works for an Insurance agency in Rosemont Pa. She added “I enjoy being with my family and friends in my free time, I usually never turn down an invitation to do something - YOLO”

When asked about her favorite fire house memory, Donna said “There are so many, but my favorite is when the company members come together and organize fundraisers to support the fire company.”

For anyone considering joining, she says “Its a very rewarding experience and you get to become part of a Fire Company family.”

Today was a very active day for the volunteers of the Newtown Square Fire Company!
It all started at 7:37am with the dispatch for an accident involving a school bus which was overturned at Boot Road and West Chester Pike. Squad 41 and Chief 41 (Chief Chris Young) arrived to find a two vehicle accident, one of which was a small school bus on its side. The bus was occupied by children and two adults. Chief 41 declared a Medical Trauma Incident, which put all local hospitals on notice that they may be receiving multiple patients.
As a result, 8 people were transported to area hospitals for evaluation.

At 8:52 am the fire company (and assisting companies) responded to a residential home on Wyloa Farm Road for a house fire with smoke in the kitchen. Chief 41 and Engine 41 arrived on scene and quickly determined the smoke was from toaster oven the homeowner had just used. All assisting companies were recalled.

At 0941 am the fire company was dispatched to Porsche of the Main Line for an automatic fire alarm. This was determined to be a false alarm.

Later in the day, at 4:59 pm the fire company responded to the Veterinary Eye Center, 3620 Chapel Road, for a possible gas leak with two occupants of the building feeling ill. Engine 41 responded along with EMS units and determined there was no gas leak. Employees were evaluated on scene and were not transported to the hospital. While clearing the scene of this incident units were dispatched to Sunrise Assisted Living, 333 South Newtown Street Road, for a fire alarm. This alarm was also determined to be a false alarm.

We would like to thank all of the local fire, police and EMS who assisted our units today on these various calls. We are thankful for your help and we know we can’t do it without you!
