At last night’s monthly meeting, Robert “Robby” Toth was voted in as a regular member after completing his probationary period. Rob works for the town of Newtown and covers our daytime calls when work allows. Fun fact, Rob is a former member of Botsford from mid to late 80’s and left after moving out of town. We are glad to have him back.

*Announcement* Given the current cost of Fire trucks being around $1 million dollars, the truck committee from Botsford Fire has decided to go back to our roots with horse drawn apparatus. New Engine 551 will be replaced by horses and a steam pumper. In addition to lower purchase price, it will also virtually eliminate fuel and maintenance costs.

At 2:30 pm all Newtown companies were alerted to a structure fire in our first due district. Engine 551 was first in and had fire showing from back and side of a garage attached to a house by a breezeway. 2 attack lines and one backup line were stretched. The fire was held to the garage only. Firefighters from all companies made a great stop and prevented the fire from spreading to the main residence. The house is habitable and homeowners were able to return to their home. No homeowner, pet, or firefighter injuries. Newtown fire marshals investigated and the cause of the fire seems to be from a lithium ion battery charging station. Thank you to mutual from and
