Newtown Library Company The Library has a collection of over 21,135 books. Visit us at 114 Centre Avenue, Newtown, PA, 18940 In 1883, a new larger building was constructed at Court St.

Founded on August 9, 1760, the Newtown Library Company was granted incorporation by a Special Act of the Pennsylvania Legislature, approved March 27,1789. Until 1824 the collection of books journeyed from the homes of various librarians to the old Court House building. But when Issac Hicks donated land, the Company erected first library building to give the collection a more permenant home. and Centre Ave across from the Half Moon Tavern. In 1912 the Company dedicated the present building. An expansion in 1979 provided additional stack rooms, a children’s area, librarian work space and ramps for the handicapped. Two public reading rooms are maintained where anyone may freely enjoy the many resources of Newtown’s unique educational institution.

📢 A quick reminder from Newtown Library Company! 📚

The Library is closed today, Monday, October 12, in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day and Columbus Day. 🇺🇸

🀄 Mahjong on Centre will take place as scheduled!

🍂📚 It’s going to be a busy week at the Newtown Library Company!

Just a reminder that the Library will be closed tomorrow, Monday, October 12, in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day and Columbus Day. But we’ll be open Monday evening for Mahjong on Centre! 🀄

The rest of the week is filled with something for everyone: Toddler Storytime, Rummikub, Once Upon a Stitch, Canasta, and our monthly Poetry Series. ❤️

Please join The Newtown Library Company, 114 East Centre Avenue, Newtown, PA, 18940, on October 16th@6:00pm in welcoming local treasure, Ethel Rackin!

Ethel is the author of four books of poetry: The Forever Notes (Parlor Press, 2013); Go On (Parlor Press, 2016); Evening (Furniture Press, 2017); and In Time (Word Works Books, 2025). In addition, she is the author of the text Crafting Poems and Stories: A Guide to Creative Writing (Broadview Press, 2022). Her work has appeared in journals such as The American Poetry Review, Colorado Review, New England Review, and Poetry Daily. A MacDowell fellow, she has taught at Penn State Brandywine, Haverford College, and Bucks County Community College, where she is Professor of English and Director of the Wordsmiths Reading Series and Bucks County Poet Laureate Program.

The Boys of County Bucks will be joining us at the Library to present songs from the American Revolution, along with the stories behind the music. Expect a lively, entertaining, and very special afternoon filled with history, music, and a little audience participation! 🎻🎶

We have plenty happening at the Newtown Library Company, and a few things to put on your calendar, too!

📅 Annual Meeting: Sunday, October 25 at 1:30 PM at the Library.

🎶 The Boys of County Bucks: Saturday, November 14 at 3 PM. They’ll be bringing an afternoon of 18th-century songs and the American Revolution to life! Seats are limited, so be sure to register [email protected].

And one more thing… the Library could really use your help! If you have an hour or a few hours a week—or even every other week—we’d love to have you join our wonderful group of front desk volunteers. 📖💙
