THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO BE PRESENTED OVER 2 SATURDAYS

Are you a business person, small business owner, or entrepreneur looking for greater creative insights?
Newtown's Economic and Community Development office and the Economic Development Commission are co-sponsoring a unique two-day workshop absolutely FREE for the first 10 qualified applicants.
The workshop, “Mastering Creativity for Success” was developed by Newtown resident Mark E Greene, best-selling author, entrepreneur, former consultant, and ad agency exec. He is working with Dr. Patrick McCord, who holds a PhD in Critical Theory and Cognitive Narratology specializing in integrating neurological science and cognitive psychology into the teaching of reading and writing.
Those accepted into the free workshop must commit to attending the two, five-hour training sessions, scheduled for June 20 & 27 at 8:30am in the Newtown Municipal Center Council Chambers. Light breakfast, beverages, and snacks will be provided.

Local officials and staff gathered at the Newtown Municipal Center Monday, May 18 to celebrate an official proclamation recognizing National Foster Care Month and the important work of the Annie C Courtney Fdtn. Among those who gathered for the occasion, from left, are Newtown Human Services Director Natalie Griffin, Newtown Health District Director Donna Culbert, Newtown Fire Marshal's Office administrator Nancy Schreiner, Annie C. Community Outreach Director / Foster Family Recruiter Tom Moore, and Newtown First Selectman Bruce Walczak. Schreiner was asked to attend because she has served as a long-, short-term, and emergency foster parent to a number of youths since 2012. The proclamation was facilitated by Newtown Economic and Community Development Director John Voket, who is a long-time foster and adoption advocate.

Our office just participated in an e-bike education and safety webinar with the T2 Center at the University of Connecticut., Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP), and East Coast Greenway Alliance.
We learned that during the month of May, to celebrate Bicycle Month, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and PeopleForBikes.org made their eBike eCourse FREE to everyone (a $35.99 value).

Please take note of temporary parking ban in front and back of Shelton House at Fairfield Hills. This no parking zone will be in effect for 6 - 8 weeks beginning this Monday 4/6.

Starting April 6th, Belfor Property Restoration will begin the Fairfield Hills building hardening project. The work will focus on weatherproofing and securing the Shelton and Kent Houses from trespassers and vandals.

Work is expected to take approximately 8–10 weeks, depending on weather.

BE ADVISED both the area behind Shelton House along First Street, and the circle in front of the building will be closed for the duration of the project to serve as a construction and staging zone. Parking is prohibited in both locations for the duration of the project.
