Phase I-B Design Feedback - Public Participation: The Sandy Hook Permanent Memorial Commission welcomes public feedback on the 13 Phase I-B designs selected. Please visit SandyHookPermanentMemorial.com on instructions on how to review and submit your feedback. This feedback will be accepted until April 8th, 2018.

In turn, you may provide in person feedback on 3/15 from 7PM - 9PM at the Newtown HS Lecture Hall or 3/17 from 9AM - 11AM at the Newtown Municipal Center.

The feedback will be collected by the Commission and in turn will use this to assist in voting on 3-5 designs to move into Phase II of the design evaluation process.

The Commission has communicated with the 26 families and will continue to ensure their feedback remains at the forefront of our discussions.

Our Commission has recently completed Phase I-A of our evaluation process which allowed us to sift through all 188 designs that were submitted from around the world. We're thankful for the time spent by all in bringing to life their vision of a memorial that honors the 26 lives taken.

Designs were evaluated by our Commission with assistance from an advisory panel. Ultimately, members of the Sandy Hook Memorial Commission voted on designs based on personal preferences and anecdotal discussions.

All designs were reviewed anonymously through a Unique ID #.

Ultimately, we have decided to move forward into Phase I-B with 13 designs that we feel will evoke more discussions and interest. By no means are any of these designs final. This simply is the first submission from designers based on our Guidelines for Submitting a Design. More robust conversations will need to take place should a design move into Phase II.

The Commission will now allow the 26 families to provide feedback and evaluate these 13 designs, in a more digestible format both online and in person. Communication on this process will be sent this week. Please respect this process.

The community will also be able to provide feedback on the 13 designs online and through in person discussions. Those dates will be published soon.

Ultimately, the commission will collect feedback from these different groups to in turn make a decision on 3-5 designs which will move into Phase II where more formal in-person presentations and discussions will take place.

The Sandy Hook Permanent Memorial Commission has received 188 design submissions to be considered and evaluated over the next several weeks for a memorial that remembers, honors and celebrates the 26 lives lost on December 14th, 2012.

Thank you to the hundreds of individuals and groups (whether they ended up submitting a design or not) who have taken the time to comply by the guidelines, taken site visits and been part of this important process.

Current times and locations of our evaluation discussions are posted on SandyHookPermanentMemorial.com. It is our goal, through these discussions, to cull down the list of 188 designs to a more digestible number for further, more intimate evaluation and discussion with those most impacted.

As always, should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Commission at [email protected].

12/15/2017

Today is the final day for designers to submit their plan for the Sandy Hook Permanent Memorial Commission. Our Commission has hosted hundreds of site visits with designers from across the country over the past several months and has been inspired by the interest in this project. Once organized, the Commission will begin review of designs in January of 2018.

By end of year, a calendar will be published with timeframes of review and evaluation by our Commission and other groups, inclusive of the community at large.

Thank you to all who have taken the time to be part of this important process. As always, should there be any questions for our Commission, please don't hesitate to reach out to [email protected].
