Motor Vehicle Accident – Main Street

Shortly after 4:00 PM today, Newtown Hook & Ladder and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps were dispatched to a two-car motor vehicle accident on Main Street.

Upon arrival, crews found one vehicle had partially left the roadway and struck a tree. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries. Firefighters secured the scene while EMS evaluated those involved, and one vehicle was removed from the scene by a towing company.

We thank everyone for their patience as emergency crews worked to safely clear the roadway.

As always, if you encounter emergency vehicles operating on the roadway, please slow down, move over when possible, and remain alert for first responders working nearby.

This morning, just after 8:30 AM, Newtown Communications dispatched an all-tone assignment to all 5 Newtown Fire Departments for a reported structure fire at 71 S. Main Street after multiple callers reported seeing smoke coming from the building.

Engine 111, Engine 1, and Ladder 114 from Newtown Hook & Ladder responded. The first-arriving officer confirmed a working fire. Crews immediately went to work, placing ground ladders to the roof, deploying 114s ladder to the roof, stretching handlines, and initiating an aggressive fire attack while additional companies searched for fire extension throughout the building.

The fire was quickly knocked down, preventing further spread through the strip mall, which is home to multiple businesses including restaurants, a dance studio, a nail salon, and other local establishments.

This incident highlights the importance of early 911 notification and the coordinated response of our mutual aid partners. Thank you to all responding agencies for their teamwork and professionalism.

On Saturday, Newtown Hook & Ladder was dispatched to assist Dodgingtown Fire Department with a vehicle fire that was 5 feet from a home.

Due to the close proximity of the vehicle to the structure, Dodgingtown quickly requested a second company to ensure adequate resources were on scene.

Firefighters made a fast and aggressive attack, bringing the fire under control before it could extend to the residence. Thanks to the quick actions of all crews, there was no exposure or damage to the home.

Excellent teamwork and a rapid response helped prevent what could have been a much larger incident. 🚒🔥

⚠️ PUBLIC SAFETY ALERT ⚠️

Newtown Hook & Ladder is responding to multiple weather-related incidents throughout town, including numerous downed trees and road closures.

🚫 Please stay away from ALL downed power lines. Always assume they are energized and extremely dangerous. Never drive over or walk near them.

🌳 If you encounter a tree blocking the roadway or a closed road, turn around and find an alternate route. Please do not move barricades or attempt to drive around emergency crews.

🚒 Our volunteers are working alongside our public safety partners to clear hazards and keep our community safe. Please slow down, remain patient, and give emergency personnel plenty of room to work.

Last night, Pack 270 joined us at the firehouse for their annual Egg Drop Challenge! Over 50 pack members and their parents came out to test their engineering skills by crafting devices designed to protect their eggs from impact.

We completed two rounds of drops — the first from 35 feet and the second for any surviving eggs from an impressive 70 feet! Every year, the pack members come up with more creative and innovative designs, making it harder and harder to crack the eggs.

Great job to all of Pack 270 for another fun and successful event!
