The holiday season is approaching, and we should be contacting all our Soldiers to see if they need any assistance. Every leader should make contact with their team, squad, and platoon before 12/23/2022.

Please thank your family for allowing you to serve our country. I would like to thank you for all the holidays, birthdays and special occasions you missed in defense of our country. Our team is tasked with protecting our country and winning the nation's wars. Your past and future training are the main reasons our families will be able to have a wonderful holiday season, unlike many countries that have been invaded by foreign armies/terrorist. Take time to reflect on what you have and strive to become better. Everyone can learn and continue to become better at all our endeavors. We are here to support you if you need anything during this season. Happy Holidays!

Independence Day, a federal holiday, is commonly referred to as the “Fourth of July” or “July Fourth.” While July 4, 1776, is the final approval date of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress, the 13 American Colonies formally voted to be separated from Great Britain on July 2, 1776, when it approved a resolution of independence. It was not until 1870 that congress officially declared Independence Day a national holiday. In 1938, Congress reaffirmed July 4th as a national holiday. This year we mark the 246th anniversary of America’s birth.

Independence Day celebrates America’s birth and honors those who developed and adopted the Declaration of Independence. Today, America’s Soldiers carry the patriotism and ideals of the Founders as they serve in harm’s way. The Army remains committed to the ideals of the Declaration of Independence.

Prior to the holiday weekend, every supervisor should provide a safety briefing to their personnel. Leaders, discuss the hazards they may encounter during the holiday weekend and what actions they will take to mitigate those hazards. Personal responsibility is key and begins with leaders who care about their team. Everyone must do their part to avoid and prevent accidents.

This July Fourth, let us be thankful for the blessings that freedom represents and for the opportunities it affords. CSM Goodman and I wish each of you and your family Fourth. Enjoy the long weekend, celebrate smartly, and return to work safely.

The Stand Down is back, and this year it's bigger than ever! After receiving great feedback from last year's vendors and participants, we have decided to expand to a FOURTH location! This year's Stand Down events will be held in Buffalo, Olean, Niagara Falls, and Jamestown.

On December 11, Heroes Supporting Heroes is sponsoring Operation Santa, a holiday celebration for currently serving service members and their families (Active, Reserve and Guard). The cost is $5 per family member.

This is not about need or rank. This is about thanking the children and spouses of those who serve for their sacrifices, so please encourage all ranks, including leadership to attend.

Time slots and the location of event will be sent out to service members shortly after registration.

For the past 11 years members of the Erie County Legislature have run a program whereby school children from across the county create home-made Valentine's Day cards for local veterans. The cards were delivered to military members at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station by Erie County Legislators Frank Todaro and Chris Greene.
