A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Grand Forks County today from Noon to 9:00 PM due to strong winds, low humidity, and high fire danger.

Please avoid any outdoor burning, be cautious with equipment that could spark, and report any signs of fire immediately. Stay safe and help prevent wildfires!

Presently dry fuels, low humidity and gusty winds will create conditions where fires can escape control more easily and be difficult to contain this afternoon into early evening. Exercise caution if using outdoor equipment, and avoid burning during this time.

‼️Fire Safety Reminder from Niagara Volunteer Fire Department‼️

Hey Niagara Community! With today’s fire rating sitting on the higher side, we’re asking everyone to be extra mindful and steer clear of any activities that could spark an unwanted fire. That means holding off on burning, being cautious with equipment, and making sure anything that could ignite is fully under control.

We love seeing members of our community, but we definitely prefer it to be at local events, around town, or just out enjoying the day…not while we’re suiting up to put out a fire!

Let’s work together to keep Niagara safe, calm, and fire-free today. Thanks for doing your part and looking out for one another!

Stay safe,Niagara Volunteer Fire Department

City of Niagara residents:

The Fire Department and city leaders are aware of the fire currently burning near the railroad tracks. The fire was lit intentionally to burn some of the trees and is being monitored closely.

If you have any questions, please reach out.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Heads up, citizens of Niagara!

If you haven’t looked outside yet…well…let’s just say it’s a little white out there.

Please use caution on the roads, and if you absolutely have to travel, remember that Grand Forks County is currently under a “No Travel Advised.” As much as we love seeing your smiling faces, we’d much rather see you at a fun community event than stuck in a ditch waiting for us to pull you out!

If you do need to be out tonight, make sure your vehicle has blankets and emergency supplies, just in case. Safety first!

Otherwise, the best plan tonight might be staying home with a warm mug of tea, coffee, or hot cocoa.

Hang in there, everyone…only 101 days until summer!

No Travel Advised for Grand Forks County & Neighboring Counties

Mother Nature has officially clocked in for her shift (she’s a little late), and she is working overtime. A No Travel Advised notice has been issued for Grand Forks County and our surrounding counties which is basically winter’s polite way of saying, “Stay home unless you absolutely have to.”

Between the blowing snow, icy roads, and visibility that comes and goes like it has commitment issues, today is a great day to:

-Drink something warm
-Binge your favorite shows
-Stay in your pajamas

If you must go out, please drive slow, pack an emergency kit, and let someone know where you’re headed.

Otherwise, take this as your official permission slip to stay cozy and safe. Let them know that the Niagara Fire Department said you could stay home today. 😉

Winter Fun Fact:

Did you know that during the coldest weeks of the year, firefighters often respond to more calls caused by frozen pipes and alternative heating sources than by outdoor fires?

Fire crews also see an increase in incidents involving space heaters and fireplaces this time of year. Keeping heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn and never leaving them unattended helps prevent winter emergencies.

Staying warm safely keeps our firefighters ready for when the community needs them most.

Stay warm,

From all of us at the Niagara Volunteer Fire Department!

Please use caution when out and about today!

A blizzard warning is in effect for our area. Conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly, and travel will become extremely dangerous. Please stay indoors and off the roads if possible. ❄️

If you must travel, use extreme caution, but remember: keeping first responders safe is just as important as staying safe yourself. Avoid unnecessary trips and allow emergency crews to do their jobs.

Stay updated on local weather alerts, and take precautions to keep yourself and loved ones safe
