DEEP Recommends – If You Care, Leave It There.

“As spring and summer bring more people outdoors, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) reminds residents that this is also a busy time for wildlife – and that many young animals found alone are not abandoned and should be left undisturbed.”

Please share messaging on social media. More specific guidance can be found here: https://portal.ct.gov/deep/news-releases/news-releases---2026/hands-off---young-wildlife-should-be-left-alone

East Lyme, CT — The East Lyme Police Department is proud to announce a new and innovative partnership with the LINKED – Autism Safety Project, a national initiative designed to strengthen relationships between emergency responders and individuals within the Autism and special needs community.

Founded by Autism advocate and mother Ashley McClain, the LINKED program supports first responders through training, tools, and resources that ensure safer and more effective interactions with individuals with disabilities during emergencies.

As part of this partnership, the East Lyme Police Department is introducing a voluntary registration system for the town’s official Safety Alert System. Caregivers and families of individuals with any disability can now register their loved ones through:

• The East Lyme Police Department’s official website: https://eltownhall.com/government/departments/police
• Or in person by visiting the police department to complete a paper registration form.

This secure and confidential system will provide East Lyme’s first responders with individualized information that enables them to create pre-arrival response plans tailored to the specific needs of registered individuals. The goal is to ensure safe, informed, and compassionate responses during times of crisis.

Registered Families Will Receive:

• An Emergency Planning Packet with personalized instructions and tools to navigate both the program and emergency situations.
• A professionally developed Emergency Preparedness Social Story, a visual and written guide to help individuals with Autism and disabilities better understand emergency interactions.
• Access to resources designed to improve communication, comfort, and safety.

Equipping First Responders:

• Every police vehicle in East Lyme will be outfitted with a Sensory Pack containing calming and therapeutic sensory tools recommended by professionals.
• LINKED will also provide the Emergency Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) – a visual communication tool for non-verbal individuals to support meaningful interaction with emergency personnel.

In addition, East Lyme Police Department officers have completed specialized Autism & disability training through the LINKED – Autism Safety Program. This training equips officers with the knowledge and skills necessary to better understand and support members of the Autism and disability community.

This program is completely free and open to all East Lyme residents. The East Lyme Police Department encourages the community to share this initiative with friends, neighbors, and loved ones who may benefit.

3/4/2026 - REMINDER! Today is the first Wednesday of March 2026. The Millstone sirens will be tested at 11:00 a.m. this morning. PLEASE NOTE: The voice portion of the siren test may not be audible. Millstone is working to phase out the sirens and move to the Integrated Public Alert & Warning System (IPAWS) notification system.
IPAWS is FEMA's national system for local alerting that provides authenticated emergency and life-saving information to the public through mobile phones using Wireless Emergency Alerts, to radio and television via the Emergency Alert System, and on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Weather Radio.
East Lyme Emergency Management will continue to sound the sirens on the first Wednesday of the month at 11 a.m. until they are decommissioned, and the new alert notification process is implemented. For more information on the sirens and what to do if this was an actual emergency, follow the link below to view the Millstone information booklet. https://eltownhall.com/government/departments/emergency-management/public-safety-tips/millstone-safety-planning-information/

❄🚨❄📢 Snow Response and Recovery Efforts Update 📢❄🚨❄

📰 The News You've All Been Waiting For! 👂 We've heard your concerns, and we're answering the call! 📞

✅♻ Garbage Collection - Back on Schedule
Garbage and Recycling Collection will resume regular operations tomorrow - we'll be collecting your regular Friday route, 2/27/26.
We're planning on regular operations for next week, too. If we need to cancel any days route, we'll let you know.
We understand the overflow and excess that cancelling a few of this weeks routes has created for residents, so we've come up with a solution for that, too!
⬇️

✅♻ Transfer Station
The Transfer Station will be opened with LIMITED SERVICES starting tomorrow, Friday 2/27/26.
We're not ready to accept your appliances and tires yet...but we will have a dumpster available for your household garbage.

🏞 Hole in the Wall & The Boardwalk
We have started the process of clearing the Hole in the Wall Parking Lot and Boardwalk!
They will be CLOSED while we clear, but upon reopening, you will have access from both the Hole in the Wall and Cini Park - we encourage you to utilize both parking areas and enjoy your strolls!
While this is *not a part of normal snow clearing operations*...we have our reasons😉
⬇️

🌝🚧 Night Operations
Starting tonight, Thursday 2/26/26, and tomorrow night, Friday, 2/26/26, our crews will coordinate with local traffic control & ELPD to begin clearing the sidewalks and roadways on Pennsylvania Ave and Main Street - from Hope Street, to Columbus Ave. (Yes - these are state roads, and *we do not clear them as a part of normal operations*, but that's how much we love East Lyme).
This will mean limited access and lane closures, while we're clearing.
We recognize this is the hub of our beloved Bay town, and we know you've been cooped up, ready to get back out into the world!
That's why our goal is to take these two evenings to allow for a more focused attack on the snow in these areas - We want to support our businesses, pedestrians, and the parking areas to keep our hub a-bubbing!
Until we have cleared these area sidewalks, we encourage you to get your daily steps in at...you guessed it, The Boardwalk!
*(We will resume Boardwalk clearing with Nightly Operations).*

For the safety of our crews and residents, we will continue with night operations through the next week to address sightline concerns. It takes large equipment blocking even more of the road to improve these areas - with less traffic on the roads at night, this gives us a better opportunity at tackling these piles, and low visibility corners and intersections.

⚠️Please continue to drive with caution and keep a safe distance from other vehicles and the crews working on the roads - we all want to go home.

🌞🚧 Daytime Operations
We will continue the removal of snow throughout smaller neighborhoods, dead ends, and cul-de-sacs during regular operating hours (aka, Monday-Friday, 7am - 3pm - we don't reealllllllllyyyy want to work another weekend this Winter, or turn into vampires, if we can avoid it).

We've heard each of your calls, emails and concerns, and we will get to you as swiftly, safely, and effectively as possible!

🚓 Emergencies
As always, dial 911 in the event of an emergency. Our trucks are equipped with direct communication to ELPD, FD and first responders - we will ensure they have access to you and your loved ones, regardless of road or snow pile conditions!

❤🙏 We thank you once again for your patience, cooperation and kindness as we pivot to handle the aftermath of this Historic Blizzard!

🦸‍♂️ We don't wear capes, we drive plows.
