On June 8, 1974, the City of Niceville opened the doors of Niceville’s first public library. Until then, the residents of Niceville had used the Valparaiso Community Library, with the City of Niceville paying a fee to Valparaiso for the library privileges. The original facility was a two-stor

y, 4,500 square foot brick, glass, and metal building located on the corner of John Sims Parkway and Armstrong Avenue. In 1995, the City applied for a Construction Grant and began the planning process for a new building. Niceville joined the Okaloosa County Public Library Cooperative on October 1, 1997. The doors of our new 17,500 square foot library facility opened on August 3, 2000 in the Niceville Civic Complex.

🐝 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧'𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗢𝗫? Go inside the hive with local beekeeper Theresa Devine on Wednesday, September 16th at 10 am in the Niceville Community Center. Discover why beekeepers inspect their hives, what they look for, and how they address problems their bees may encounter. Learn essential beekeeping terminology and how to “read a frame.” Witness live bees in action in an observation hive and take a close-up look inside a bee-free hive to see exactly where the bees live. Fresh local honey will be available for purchase following the presentation.

📖 Meet local author Sage Byrne this Wednesday, August 19th, at the Niceville Library from 11 am to 1 pm!

Sage Byrne is the nom de plume of a creative writer, photographer, and Florida Master Naturalist currently living in the Florida Panhandle. She is owned by two Rough-collies and a small band of backyard tortoises. When she is not writing or reading, Sage enjoys hiking, kayaking, fishing, and paddle-boarding. Copies of Nereid Unbound will be available for purchase and signing.

The Niceville Library Writers Group will meet this Saturday, August 8th, from 10 am - 12 pm. Beginning in September, meetings will take place during that same timeslot on the 3rd Saturday of each month. Writers of all genres and experience are welcome!
