After Hurricane Helene caused extensive damage to Norfolk Southern's rail line between Old Fort and Black Mountain, North Carolina, R. J. Corman Railroad Services was selected to help restore the corridor and return this critical route to service.

Over the course of the project, our crews rebuilt damaged roadbed, repaired washouts, stabilized mountainsides, and restored approximately 14 miles of track through some of the most challenging terrain in the Southeast. The effort became one of the largest projects in our company's history and was completed with no recordable project-related injuries.

In April 2026, the first revenue freight train successfully operated over the restored line, marking an important milestone in the recovery of Western North Carolina's rail infrastructure.

Today, we celebrate the birthday of our founder, Rick Corman.

The impact of Mr. Corman's life reaches far beyond the company he started. It can be found in the opportunities he created, the people he mentored, the communities he supported, and the culture he helped establish. His influence continues to be felt by employees across the R. J. Corman family of companies and by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

As we honor his birthday, we remember his contributions with gratitude and celebrate the difference he made in so many lives.

Earlier this month, R. J. Corman participated in Wilmore's Salute To Service, a community event celebrating America’s 250th birthday, Wilmore’s 150th anniversary, and the 35th anniversary of the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center while honoring veterans from across Central Kentucky.

As part of the event, our team made and served homemade ice cream using a recipe from the mother of company Founder Rick Corman and Board of Trustees member Sandy Adams, a well-known favorite among employees.

Following the celebration, R. J. Corman was presented with a commemorative plaque by the City of Wilmore. The display features an America250 Betsy Ross Edition flag, created to celebrate the America250 initiative and 250 years of American independence. With its unique design, which incorporates “250” into the stars, the flag serves as a meaningful symbol of our nation’s history and heritage.

It also includes a certificate of authenticity and commemorative coins recognizing these important milestones.

We are grateful to the City of Wilmore, Kentucky for this thoughtful recognition and appreciate the continued partnership we share.
