Today, March 10, 2025, Kentucky health officials announced two additional children have died from influenza. A total of three children have died from influenza this season in Kentucky.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has described this flu season as the worst in over 15 years. Though most influenza and COVID-19 infections result in mild illness, serious symptoms such as difficulty breathing, seizures, high fever (>104Β°F), dehydration, or worsening of other medical conditions require medical attention. Antiviral treatment of influenza and COVID-19 are also recommended for some individuals to reduce the severity of the illness.

The CDC recommends that everyone six months of age and older get the annual flu and COVID-19 vaccines. To find vaccines near you visit vaccines.gov.

Other good health habits to prevent the transmission of flu and other illnesses include washing hands often with soap and water, covering coughs and sneezes and staying at home when sick.

Our hearts are heavy this morning. Officer Ruggiero was a wonderful community partner and dear friend to JCHD. πŸ’™

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our friend and brother, Officer Anthony Ruggiero.

Officer Ruggiero was a 9 year veteran of the The Nicholasville Police Department, and we are experiencing profound sadness in the aftermath of his untimely death.

We will be escorting the hero through Nicholasville between the hours of 0930 and 1000 this morning. We will arrive at North Main Street and proceed to Betts and West Funeral Home.

Our thoughts are with a wounded community, as well as with the family he leaves behind.
