After a decade of dedicated service to Nichols Hills, City Manager Shane Pate will step down at the end of 2026.

For 10 years, Shane has helped guide our community, champion improvements, and build lasting relationships with residents, staff and community leaders. We are deeply grateful for his leadership, friendship and commitment to Nichols Hills.

The City Council has selected Dave Slezickey, current City Manager of The Village, as City Manager-Designate. Dave will officially assume the role on January 1, 2027.

Nichols Hills is well positioned for the transition, with an experienced City Council, dedicated city staff and more than 100 residents who serve on boards and commissions. We celebrate Shane’s remarkable service to our community and look forward to welcoming Dave to Nichols Hills.

All Nichols Hills administrative offices will be closed on Monday, September 7, 2026, in observance of Labor Day. Sanitation services will also be paused on this day.

We will resume normal business hours and services on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

When Dr. G.A. Nichols founded Nichols Hills in 1929, he had one goal in mind: to create one of the premier residential communities in the Southwest. Nearly a century later, that vision lives on through residents who continue to preserve the character and beauty of Nichols Hills, including Dr. Nichols' great-grandsons, Nolan Coyle and Nick Berry.

As Nolan shared, "Our great-grandfather had a vision to create the nicest place to live in the Southwest, and I really think he succeeded."

Nick added, "If my great-grandfather could see Nichols Hills today, I know he would be proud to see that it is still thriving.”

Meet Nancy Herzel, this month's addition to our Resident Spotlight Series!

Nancy is originally from Alabama and moved to Nichols Hills nearly 30 years ago. A CPA who works in the oil and gas industry, Nancy has served the City in numerous volunteer leadership roles, including past chair of the Environment, Health and Sustainability Commission (EHSC), co-chair of the 2023 Sustainability Plan Sub-Committee and co-chair of the Redbud Park Redevelopment Fundraising Committee. She helped establish the Nichols Hill Pollinator Garden and currently serves as treasurer of Nichols Hills Parks, Inc.

Her leadership has helped advance environmental initiatives, community education and beautification efforts throughout Nichols Hills. She’s passionate about making the outdoors accessible to everyone and the many physical and mental benefits of being in nature. Nancy’s advice for those considering volunteering with Nichols Hills is: “Do it. Volunteering always gives you more than you put into it.”

Thanks for all you’ve done to make Nichols Hills a better and more beautiful place to live, Nancy!

This month in our Employee Spotlight Series, we are highlighting Colton Sanderson, Lieutenant and Paramedic for the Nichols Hills Fire Department.

Colton is proud to serve the Nichols Hills community, where helping neighbors and familiar faces makes every call more meaningful. He is committed to providing the highest level of care to residents and takes pride in the department's transition to Advanced Life Support (ALS), which has enhanced emergency medical services for the community. Colton also appreciates the City's commitment to equipping first responders with the training, equipment and resources they need to succeed.

We want to share an important update about our shared spaces and property records.

Old subdivision maps, known as plats, often contain outdated discriminatory language. While these restrictions have long been unconstitutional, the wording has remained on historic records. Thanks to recent legislative efforts, county clerks now have the authority to redact and remove this language from municipal plat documents.

We commend Senator Carri Hicks for bringing SB 2139 to the finish line. As a result of this legislation, Nichols Hills has successfully amended all plats that previously contained discriminatory language, reaffirming our commitment to ensuring our city is a welcoming and inclusive community for all residents and visitors.
