Leonard Knight's Salvation Mountain News Welcome to the page of Leonard Knight's Salvation Mountain News. Welcome to thel page of Leonard Knight's Salvation Mountain News.

Salvation Mountain is located in the lower desert of Southern California in Imperial County just east of the Salton Sea and about a hour and a half from Palm Springs. Salvation Mountain is Leonard's tribute to God and his gift to the world with its simple yet powerful message: "God Is Love." Leonard's passion has lovingly created this brilliant "outsider art " masterpiece resplendent with not only

biblical and religious scripture such as the Lord's Prayer, John 3:16, and the Sinner's Prayer, but also including flowers, trees, waterfalls, suns, bluebirds, and many other fascinating and colorful objects. Salvation Mountain must be seen to be fully appreciated as those who have made the journey will attest. Its 50 foot height and 150 foot breadth is made totally of local adobe clay and donated paint and is truly unique in the United States and probably the world. From its Sea of Galilee at the bottom, to the big red heart in the middle, to the cross at the very top, the reoccurring theme of "Love" is everywhere at Salvation Mountain. If you'd like to donate towards preserving the mountain please leave money, checks in the salvation mountain donation box near the welcome wagon.

Celebration of Life
Hello Friends, Thank you for your patience. Leonard's loss has touched so many we can't keep count. Thank you all for your heart felt words and prayers. Following Leonard's requested cremation, we have separated his ash remains for two separate ceremonies. We hope this schedule allows those who wish to pay last respects and celebrate his life with us. Leonard's family has arranged for military honors with all the bells & whistles while Salvation Mountain, Inc is planning a celebration of his life at the mountain. This is expected to be a special day!! Details are still being confirmed, but the tentative schedule is as follows:

Friday, March 14th at Ft Rosecrans Cemetery in San Diego.
Please RSVP to [email protected] if you will attend
Arrive at 10 am for the 10:30 am ceremony (Confirmed!!).

Saturday, March 15th at Salvation Mountain
No RSVP required, all our welcome
11:00 am?, More details to follow!!

If anyone wishes to contribute (or speak) in anyway to either ceremony, please contact me for the cemetery and contact us through this page or email for the mountain.

We regret the delay in this announcement, but another health issue in Leonard's immediate family has delayed pinning down the dates.

Thank you again,
Bob Levesque
Vice President

Just wanted to let everyone know that plans for Leonard's internment and celebration of life are in the works. Timing is still being worked out with the many variables of travel, health, weather etc. The plan is an internment at Rosecrans Veterans Cemetery in San Diego (Leonard has and older brother there) and then a celebration of life at his mountain. We are probably looking at sometime in March. I will let you know as soon as we are sure.

From Dan: Ready for some GREAT news? Leonard is alive and well in the care center but his deteriorating hearing and eyesight are continuing to isolate him from visitors and even his caregivers at times. We have been working for almost a year trying to get the VA to remove Leonard's cataracts. Umpteen trips (most of which were useless) and many hoops to jump through finally got him cleared for surgery only to be put on a seemingly bottomless waiting list. This is where we have been sitting for almost 4 months and still no surgery date! Please don't get me wrong, the VA is not to blame, they are simply overwhelmed by demand and lack of funding. There are many caring people working hard but just have no chance keeping up. Now for the good news. Salvation Mountain Inc. recently received our 501c3 tax deductible status from the Feds. A few days ago, a couple (they wish to remain anonymous) informed me that they would like to donate $7500 earmarked to pay for Leonard's cataract surgery!!!! No more waiting for the VA!! I wish I'd had a video camera when I told him so you all could have seen his face! Wish us luck getting this done soon, I can't wait for Leonard to really SEE his mountain for the first time in years.

From email
Hello-
I am an art teacher for a Christian homeschool co-op in Virginia. Over the years I have found Mr. Knight's work so inspiring. This year my students made miniature "Salvation Mountains" out of clay and we talked about Mr. Knight and his artwork/witnessing.
I have attached a picture from our show if you would like to pass them along to Mr. Knight.
Thank you!

Facebook has changed again, so they can make those of us with Pages pony up $$$ to reach our audiences. (I even tried it a few times - what a waste.)

So, if ya wanna see the posts, please add this page to your "interest lists". "Liking a page or clicking "show in news feed" no longer works - you'll only get about 10% of the posts.

There will be a small gathering on December 13, 2012 at the Salton Sea Peace Garden in Salton City in honor of Kevin Eubank and his contributions to the care of Leonard and Salvation Mountain. We will gather on the day of his passing and celebrate Kevin's life and what he meant to us.

Aaron Huey was at Leonard's Birthday Party to take photographs. Aaron Huey’s is doing a book and that book will be used to promote Salvation Mountain rather than using the Salvation Mountain to promote the book.
