Here are some of the things our neighbors said about the Niles Free Bus when the service was shut down. Vote YES on the referendum and spread the word!!! Early voting is available at village hall and election day is March 17th.
It's a lifeline for people that don't drive.
My goal for the year was joining the fitness center and the Niles Senior Center. Niles Free Bus would have been my transportation.
I used the Free Bus when it first started, and used it all the time when I was a teenager. Now I'm losing my sight and can't drive, and no Free bus that I loved so much? Seriously???
Many of us rely on this bus for many reasons.
It truly served a purpose in our community.
That's what my mother-in-law uses it for. No car, doesn't drive, limited income - no online ordering. We don't mind getting her groceries but she likes her independence.
I used to go to the library once a week, now it would take three buses to get there and half a day back and forth.
My son used the Free Bus to go to the Teen Center after school. Since the services was cut he hasn't been able to go. It was a way for him to be independent and it's a real shame that kids no longer have that available.
My elderly mother and aunt both moved here because of the bus service.
Niles United urges every resident to vote “YES” on the Free Bus referendum. For over fifty years, the Niles Free Bus has been more than just a service—it is a lifeline. By providing accessible transportation for seniors and neighbors with disabilities, the Free Bus ensures that no one in our community is left isolated. In fact, for many, this service is the primary reason they choose to call Niles home.
With over 700 daily riders, the bus serves as a vital artery connecting residents to civic resources, local shops, and regional transit. At a cost of just $21 per resident—a mere 0.5% of the village budget—the return on investment is undeniable. Best of all, this funding is already factored into your tax bill; a "YES" vote maintains this service without adding a new financial burden.
The Niles Free Bus is part of what makes Niles special; part of why we Love Niles. It represents our commitment to accessibility, local commerce, and each other. On election day, let’s protect the service that keeps Niles moving. Vote “YES” for the Free Bus—for our neighbors, for our economy, and for our future.
