At approximately 2:25 a.m. this morning, Niles firefighters were dispatched to a reported house fire. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire involving an attached garage, portions of the home, three vehicles, and a trailer.

Firefighters quickly initiated an aggressive fire attack and were able to bring the fire under control and extinguish it.

Three residents were awakened by their dog barking and activated smoke alarms, allowing them to safely escape the home. Sadly, despite firefighters’ efforts, the family dog did not survive the fire.

One resident sustained minor injuries and was transported by Lane LifeTrans for evaluation and treatment. The American Red Cross responded to assist the displaced family.

We would like to thank Lane LifeTrans, the Niles Police Department, Niles Dispatch, and the Niles Light Department for their assistance and support during this incident.

This incident serves as an important reminder of the lifesaving value of working smoke alarms. Our thoughts are with the family as they recover from this loss.

The Trumbull County Technical Rescue Team is made up of firefighters from within the county, that are trained for technical rescue in Rope Rescue, Confined Space, Trench Rescue, and Structural Collapse. The Niles Fire Department has 3 firefighters on the team.
