Grady County Fire Department / Official A public information page

This coming Saturday evening. All vehicles, people welcome.

I have invested 30 years +- serving the citizens of Grady County and the State of Oklahoma as the State President of the Volunteer Firefighters Association of Oklahoma (VFAO). I am still serving the fire service and the citizens of Oklahoma as the Executive Director of VFAO.

My service to both have been highlights of my life. There have been good/bad experiences along the way however I would not do anything different if I could even the death threat from a county employee.

I started this page as a public service to the citizens of Grady County and the State of Oklahoma to provide a platform to share information and knowledge with all about happenings, safety tips, etc. This seemed logical as I was the Public Information Officer (PIO) for Grady County Fire Department (GCFD). The page currently has 4840 followers which seems like quite a few so I suppose something was being done well.

Conflict between the County Commissioners and the GCFD officers resulted in significant changes to the fire board which resulted in GCFD taking a different path in its service to the citizens of Grady County.

Even though GCFD is a Title 19 Department it used some Title 11 rules to make significant changes in operations of GCFD.

This will be the last post on this page and comments will be turned off.

if you enjoyed the public safety types of information shared on this page follow my personal business FB page which is Be Safe as I will be devoting my time and energy to increasing my exposure there.

I will not air reasons, events or specifics about the changes in GCFD even though in my opinion they were significantly underhanded and possibly illegal (yes I consulted legal council) and have hurt GCFD reputation within the State.

Should you desire more details for a legitimate reason please contact me privately.

Thanks to Grady County and the State of Oklahoma citizens for allowing me to serve.

As the dog days of summer continue on, familiarize yourself with the signs of heat stroke in dogs.

If your dog is suffering from heat stroke, here are a list of steps to take:

1. Move your dog to a cooler area.
2. Apply cool towels or water over the dog's body. Avoid ice packs or cold water to avoid shock.
3. Give small amounts of cool water to drink.
4. Take your dog to the vet ASAP for evaluation.

Some dogs can fully recover from heat stroke if it is caught and treated early enough.

May 4th was chosen as International FireFighters' Day as it is the feast day of St Florian, the Patron Saint of Firefighters.
St Florian was the first known commander of one firefighting squad in the Roman Empire. He lost his life, as well as those of his colleagues, for protecting the same humane ideas which Firefighters all over the world share even today.
Happy International Firefighters' Day to Firefighters and their supporters all around the world. We thank you for the courage, commitment, and dedication you show every day by serving your community.
Stay safe.
