Stony Hills Nature Preserve

Stony Hills Nature Preserve Stony Hills Nature Preserve is a 196 acre preserve to protect oak hickory woodlands and a restored Prairie. The Preserve is open to the public.

No hunting, collecting, or ATV's are allowed. A parking lot is available on N County Rd 1430. In November 1999, Gretchen & Roger Batz protected the site with the Illinois Nature Preserve Commission. The site was dedicated to protect unique natural habitat including limestone cliff outcroppings, oak hickory woodland, and a restored prairie. In 2009 the Batz donated the site the Prairie Land Conservancy to protect and manage the site. The Conservancy is a land trust located in Macomb IL.

Want to meet fellow nature-minded folks while contributing to conservation science? Learn how to identify flora and fauna native to Illinois? See how Prairie Land Conservancy uses data to care for our local protected lands?

If yes, then you want to join our Bio Blitz! A bio blitz is a community science event with the goal of measuring biodiversity in a brief period (normally they are over a 24 hour period but this one just takes place in the morning to keep us all out of the summer heat).

From nature newbie to nerd, all are welcome to join us outdoors on July 19th!
