The South County Advisory Council (SCAC) to the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors recently held its annual Town Hall to meet candidates for this year’s election. The SCAC’s fully elected council advises the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors on South County issues. The SCAC represents the South County (Inland and Coastal) Area that covers the territory from Los Berros Road south to the county line.
After the Town Hall, which was the deadline for applying, there are no positions which are being contested. As a result, the previously scheduled election on 3/16/26 will not occur. All vacant seats will be filled by the current applicants outside the election in accordance with SCAC’s bylaws.
Area 2’s two open seats had two applicants, Harry Walls and Gary Adams.
Area 3’s one open seat had one applicant, Rusty Hobbs.
Area 4’s two open seats had two applicants, Tom Girard and Justin Marsh.
Area 5’s one open seat had one applicant, Maria Diets-Stover.
Area 6’s two open seats had two applicants, Gary Spelbring and Stephen Vines.
Public Safety’s open seat had one applicant, Richard Wright.
The new Council will be seated and sworn in on March 23, 2026 at the regular SCAC meeting at 6:30pm at 671 S Oakglen, Nipomo.
There are still vacant positions for Geographic Area Representatives in Areas 1, and 7 which can be filled by appointment. We’re also always looking for volunteers to be involved in our Land Use and Traffic & Circulation committees. Detailed descriptions of these geographic boundaries, and additional information about SCAC, can be found on the SCAC website at http://scac.ca.gov. If you live in any of these areas, please consider lending your voice to important discussions about current and future matters in the South County. Your input and service are important to our community, and I’d be happy to talk with anyone wanting to know more about getting involved.
Sincerely,
Jerry Bridge
Election Committee Chair
